Ectopic Pregnancy – Causes, Symptoms and Cure

There are many pregnancy abnormalities known in medical science. Among these abnormalities, ectopic pregnancy is one of them. It is actually a type of pregnancy complication. In ectopic pregnancy, the fertilized ovum starts nourishing in some other tissues other than uterine wall. Mostly, the fertilized ovum starts developing in tubes. Due to this development in tubes instead of uterine wall, this abnormality is also called tubal pregnancy. It is not necessarily tubes where fertilized egg develops; it can be any other parts of the body. The common places for the fertilized egg to grow are cervix or abdomen. The egg keeps on developing and the time comes when it become mature enough to burst causing severe bleeding and ultimately can prove fatal for mother’s health. If it is not treated properly then the it can have deathly consequences.

The symptoms of this disease are very subtle and are very difficult to identify. However, you can have grim prognosis of whether you have this abnormality or not by the early signs of this disease. The early symptoms of this disease include pain in lower abdomen and also pain while having bowel movements. The most threatening symptom of this disease is vaginal bleeding. This is quite obvious symptom of this disease. Ectopic pregnancy is actually nothing more than a failing pregnancy so it causes much vaginal bleeding. The patient suffers from internal as well as external bleeding in ectopic pregnancy. Internal bleeding can cause severe pain in backbone and pelvis regions. It also causes severe pain in shoulder and you are unable to do any daily chores.

As I have explained earlier that ectopic pregnancy is abnormal pregnancy in which the fertilized egg is unable to reach women’s uterus due to certain blockage. This blockage can be caused by several factors. This blockage can either be caused by inflammation of tubes or endometriosis. The other things that can cause blockage of tubes are some past surgery. The blockage of tubes can instantaneously be checked with the help of urine test because this test gives results very fast and ectopic pregnancy must be treated as soon as it is diagnosed.

If ectopic pregnancy is in premature stages then an injection of methotrexate is given to the patient causing decease in the growth of the embryo. If the embryo has developed somewhat bigger in the tubes then surgical methods are used to remove the abnormally developed embryo. However the modern techniques such as laparoscopy can save the patient from complex surgical methods. Laparoscopy is a method in which the access to pelvis of the patient is gained and then the affected tube which is causing abnormal pregnancy is removed. This is a bitter fact that ectopic pregnancy can develop again. So the best practice is to get a regular check-up from some expert doctor to monitor the functioning of Fallopian tubes and minimizing the chances of getting ectopic pregnancy again.

Ride-On Toys – Is Your Child Ready For One?

Is your child ready for a ride-on toy? And if so, what type should you buy? There are a lot of pint sized vehicles available to choose from. Most fall into one of two categories-battery powered and kid-powered. Battery powered ride on toys are just what they sound like-toys that your child will ride in or on, that move via battery power. Kid powered toys range from pedal cars to bicycles, and your child has to pedal, push, or rock to make them go.

When you feel that your child is ready for a ride-on toy there are a few things to consider:

•The age of the child: Typically the right age to begin looking at battery powered ride on toys is around toddler age. Assuming there is adult supervision, kid powered ride-on-toys can be given at a fairly young age, and can promote mobility and walking in young children. The youngest riders will probably enjoy a simple foot powered form of transport, one they can simply sit on and propel forward with their feet.

•Room to grow: Look for adjustable seats and pedals. Toddlers grow very quickly, and a toy that is adjustable for size or difficulty will last a much longer time. Look for durable construction and materials-kids can be hard on any toys, and ride-on vehicles generally have some moving, working parts that could be damaged with rough play.

•Portability: As strange as it may sound, you want to find a toy that can be easily folded. Ride-on-toys can be very bulky and hard to transport. This can prove to be an issue on outings such as picnics or days at the park, and you can be sure your child will want to bring it along. Keep portability in mind when you buy, and you’ll save yourself a great deal of stress later. This also helps with storage if you do not have a large amount of garage space!

•Take a test drive: Even though you may be looking at making the ride-on toy a surprise for your child, when choosing one it is best to bring them along. The reason for this is that the feel, style, and drivability may vary depending on the type of ride-on toy you are looking for. Let your child take a test drive-or at least test out a friend’s vehicle before buying.

•Ride Safely: Once you have the toy the important thing to do is to go over boundaries with your child. Let them know where they can and cannot drive the toy and what the range is. Make helmet use mandatory, and be sure that your child’s helmet fits properly. Stress that ride-on toys are not for the street, and that they will need to make way for pedestrians.

Keep the above tips in mind, and shop with care to choose a ride-on toy that is strong, safe, and appropriate for your child.

The 5 False Beliefs of Head Lice You Need to Know

Part of the “gross” reaction surrounding head lice is from the false beliefs that many people have about head lice.?Accurate information is always the best way to conquer fear and discomfort,so let’s get started by putting and end to these 5 false beliefs of head lice.

False Belief #1 – Head Lice infestation is directly related to the personal hygiene of the individual or home environment.

This is absolutely not true. Head lice are totally dependent on humans for their survival so they will attach to anyone who is available.?Since children between the ages of 6 and 12 are in the process of developing “personal space” they are usually the ones to “catch the bug”.?Play environments, sleep overs, sharing of personal items all support the lice methods of spreading, by close human contact.

False Belief #2 – Domestic pets are carriers of lice and can pass them on to their owners.

Wrong again. Lice are human specific and cannot survive on any other host.?They need human blood to survive and without it will die within 48 hours. No need to stress your pets with pesticide sprays and soaps, they are innocent.

False Belief #3 – Lice carry diseases.

This is partially true in that history tells us that lice were believed to carry plague type diseases,?but contemporary science has proven other wise.?However, scalp infections can be a valid concern as a result of the constant scratching the child may be doing to releave the “itchy” feeling as the lice feed and crawl on the head.?The American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education writes:

“A [person] may notice open sores on the head where the fingernails have penetrated the skin.?If they become secondarily infected with staph and/or strep, they are said to have undergone “impetiginization.” these lesions may be more or less parallel in arrangement, caused by simultaneous penetration from several scratching fingernails, a phenomenon known as “railroad tracking.” Occasionally, a patient is so heavily infested with head lice that systemic symptoms occur.?They include enlarged posterior cervical lymph noes, fever, anorexia, and malaise.?These patients should be referred to a physician to evaluate the need for an antibiotic/antibacterial prescription.”

False Belief #4 – Lice “jump” like fleas to get around.

Nope, not true. Lice cannot jump, but they can move very fast.?They also, do not fly, leap or swim.?Lice move their homes from person to person when two people are touching.?They can be sitting close together on a play ground or listening to each other’s ear pods on the playground. Anything of a personal nature that is shared or exchanged can be the vehicle lice use to move to another head.?Something or someone must be touching, it’s as simple as that.

False Belief #5 – Lice are easy to get rid of.

Wrong!?Lice are very small and very fast. This combination makes them hard to eradicate?and may take several attempts and frequent maintenance checks before they are totally gone from the head. The secret to extermination is to not get them at all.?/p>

Talk to your children about what not to do or share with classmates.?There is a wonderfully, kid friendly book that uses illustrations and rhymes to tell a story about a little girl who gets head lice from school and what she and her family do about it.?It’s designed to be instructional but written to be read like a bed story. Introduction to Candle Making

Homemade candle making has has recently become a big trend. More people everyday are using candle making as a hobby and business opportunity. It’s a great method to obtain meaningful presents for relatives and loved ones and also to bring in a few extra dollars if you sell them. But the art of candle making is anything but new. Long before lamps and light bulbs were even thought of, candles lit the world.

Whether you’re making candles as gifts, or looking to make some cash off the craft, you must first perfect the art of candle making. You should make sure to buy high quality materials for making your candles. Molds, wicks, scents and coloring, made specifically for candle making, are available in crafts shops and online.

The first step in candle making is to melt the wax. To do this you use a double boiler. To set up your double boiler, you take a large pot and fill it with water, then place a smaller pot with the wax in it inside the bigger pot. Wax burns easily during the process of melting, so by using a thermometer to regulate the temperature of the wax and a double boiler you reduce the risk of burning.

Place your wick carefully in the mold you chose and coat the inside of the mold with a non-stick spray to facilitate an easier removal of the finished candle. Then pour your melted wax into your mold. You can leave it to sit until the candle has solidified or you can speed the process up by placing the mold in your freezer for 30 minutes or so. When the candle has hardened completely, remove it from the mold.

There’s literally no limit to the various kinds of candles available for creation in your home. With all the variations of colors, fragrances, and decorations the sky is the limit. Some candle makers have even created original latex molds to create truly spectacular looking candles.

Latex molds are very flimsy, however. It’s quite difficult to fill a latex mold if you do not have something to stabilize the mold. Luckily, all you need is a simple sturdy piece of cardboard to support a latex mold. Just cut a hole large enough for the mold into the cardboard and then place the mold up to it’s outward lip in the hole. You can now fill the mold with no problems.

Perfecting candle making techniques usually takes a couple of attempts, but once you’ve got it down, you’ll be amazed by the gorgeous candles you’ve made and can now give away as gifts or sell with a little bit of decorative packaging.

Great Investments For The Home Entertainer

If it seems as though every Christmas, birthday party, graduation party, and Fourth of July (amongst others) are held at your house – you are probably no stranger to entertaining. Whether most of your events are held indoors or outdoors, there are some investments you can make that will make your life easier and your guests times more enjoyable. Whether they’re saving you a trip to the store or providing a conversation piece – these fun and helpful party items are a must for any host or hostess.

?Although you may associate them with weddings or fancy dinner parties, chocolate fountains are a great investment for anyone who enjoys entertaining. These easy to maintain items can be found at any cooking store and are extremely reasonably priced. You won’t have to worry about supervising it the entire time and your guests will have a fun new way to enjoy appetizers. You’ll look like a professional party host and you’ll have it for every event to come.

?If you’re constantly looking for platters and bowls to serve food on during every party, investing in a matching set will be something you will definitely benefit from. Many sets are available at cooking stores that include punch bowls, serving trays, and even serving tools like ladles and tongs. If you don’t have a cooking store nearby, you can also find items like these at any party store. Investing in a little more expensive, but higher quality, set will ensure that you will have these useful items for years to come. Never again will you have to spend an afternoon searching for dishes and plates to house your menu selections.

?If you entertain outdoors often, you know that there’s very little you can do to prevent bugs from hovering around food spreads. Instead of constantly swatting flies away – invest in some clear plastic food covers. They’ll keep your food protected from the bugs while still allowing party goers to see what’s underneath them.

?Another great investment for outdoor entertainers is high quality patio furniture. Sure, it’s easy to go out and replace cheap, broken chairs with more cheap chairs – but repeating this process every year can be both costly and annoying. By investing in patio or lawn furniture that you can either spray down with the hose or wash the seat/cushion covers mid-season, you’ll be able to easily maintain this furniture that will last you through multiple seasons.

?If you’ve ever planned an outdoor event and you’re worried that your porch won’t be large enough for everyone if it starts to rain, an outdoor canopy is something that will take away that lingering fear. Whether you’re using it to house chairs on a rain threatening afternoon or you’re using it as shelter for the food on an extremely sunny day, a small canvas canopy is easy to put up and down and has multiple uses.

So whether you’re an avid entertainer or are just getting into the game – making these investments will be something that both you and your guests will benefit from. Just as you would plan ahead for a vacation, think of your parties in the same light. The more experience you have, the better you’ll be at planning and organizing things. By having these helpful items already in the home, you’ll be a step ahead when it comes to getting things together.

How to Deal With Breast-Is-Best Police

Many mothers who choose to bottle-feed rather than breast feed are made to feel like dysfunctional mothers. It sometimes seems that the breast-is-best mantra has pervaded our society to such an extent that mothers are now more embarrassed to bottle-feed than breastfeed in public. If you bottle-feed, what can you do to combat such condemnation?

My wife and I recently went to a fashionable eatery and suffered the side glances of disapproval from the breast-is-best brigade. Its very trendy place, with a laissez-faire attitude, which is reflected in its designer tables and chairs spilling out onto the pavement. The clientele is middle-class, well off and educated; the sort that prides itself on living life as one sees fit. Before the birth of our first child we would come often and notice mothers’ breastfeeding their babies on the pavement. Little did we know that we would be made to feel like pariahs by merely bottle-feeding our child?

It was a Sunday and was one of our first outings as a new family. We sat down at a table and, a little later on, noticed two mothers, at two different tables, who were busy breastfeeding. When we first noticed the other mothers we felt a sort of camaraderie; a special club of new families.

Soon our child began to cry. He wanted feeding. Naturally, my wife reached for the prepared bottle of formula and placed it on the table. She then stopped and slouched back in her chair. I asked what was wrong but she refused to say. I kept pressing and she eventually told me that one of the other mothers – who were breastfeeding – had given her a rather dirty look. I told her she was imaging things and I began to feed our child. I looked about and, to my amazement, I also noticed that two women ?the one who was breastfeeding and another who had been breastfeeding earlier ?were giving me looks of disapproval.

We left soon after with my wife holding back the tears.

At first we put this down to a one-off. But sometime later my wife went to a mothers and babies group. The idea of these groups is for mothers to get to know other mothers and to exchange idea, tips and generally help one another. What my wife noticed was that the walls of the class were plastered with breast milk propaganda. Also, no mothers talked about bottle-feeding, what formula they used, or what was the best way prepare formula. Rather, the talked incessantly about breastfeeding, latching-on and sore nipples. My wife didnt get the support that the group purported to offer and left the meetings altogether.

My wife ending up feeling embarrassed about bottle-feeding in public or even talking about bottle-feeding.

It was time to fight back. After all, formula milk is a fantastic alternative to breast milk. It has many advantages of that of breast milk; no sore nipples, you can stop fretting about how much milk shes getting, you can eat whatever you want, you can still feed your child even when you get sick, and others in your family can feed your child.

My wife got a T-shirt printed; Bottle-feeding and Proud?and we paid another visit to the trendy eatery. We sat down and ate a very nice meal. Later my wife placed our babys bottle feeding paraphernalia on the table and then began to feed him.

I dont know if we got many disapproving looks; I was too busy being a proud father and husband. I love my wife and seeing her bottle feed our child, I knew why Id married her; shes strong, independent-minded and a wonderful mother to our child.

The Copperleaf Plant Will Transform Your Garden Into an Explosion of Color

The copperleaf plant will transform your garden into an explosion of color. One look and you’ll see why its one of the most beautiful plants you can grow in your garden. The soil PH for the copperleaf should be around 9.1. Once this simple need is met, the plant needs minimal attention.

The copperleaf can grow up to 10 feet in height, and its colorful oval leaves are visually striking. The plant will form small flowers, but they are hard to see behind it foliage. But don’t feel as if your missing out on its beautiful blooms, the colorful leaves more than make up for it.

Some varieties have green leaves with a coppery ting; others have a bright crimson margin that will design each leaf. Some species of the copperleaf have larger leaves that are painted with beautiful shades of cream, yellow and red, while others are simply mottled with a lovely red and orange.

The best location for the plant is in full sun, but they will tolerate partially shaded areas. The plant leaves will become more brightly colored with more direct sunlight. If growing the plant indoors allow it access to plenty of sunlight, otherwise the colors won’t reach their true potential. If grown in a container a soilless potting mix with good-drainage is a must. Never allow the soil to dry out before watering. Water the copperleaf regularly and mist the leaves several days a week.

The copperleaf will can be found in the South Pacific, Tropical Americas, and Central to South Florida. The plant can be grown year-round in these warm climate areas. The look good as stand alone plants or grown and shaped into hedges.

Steve Habib is an active gardener and researcher on the subject of growing and caring for a variety of plants. Raising Happy Children – Discipline and Behavior

Raising happy and healthy children is a challenging task for the parents. Parents feel pride if the growth of the child in all respects is perfect. Physical growth, mental growth, intellectual growth is the main concern for parents. Parents are keenly interested in the perfect growth of the child. The societal interaction is important for the parents. Parents must consult the doctors and physicians. Here one may not forget the area that is based on the teaching of a child on the discipline and behaviors of a child. It is necessary for the parents for the good behaviors of the children. It is better to handle the behaviors of the toddlers.

Parents must make rules. The purpose of making the rules is that the kids must be able to stick to their limits. The schemes must be made by the parents to bring smart resolutions to improve the behavior of the child. These schedules will also help to give the children a life that is full of disciplines. A Seed Bead Primer – Part 2

In A Seed Bead Primer – Part 1, we reviewed sizes and shapes of seed beads. Equally important is the color and finish on your beads, and the number of choices is amazing.

In each shape and size of seed bead, you will find every color in the spectrum, including many shades of every color. When viewing beads of the same color in a container, you will see an intensified version of the color. Remember, though, that when creating your project, the color of the bead may change slightly. For instance, if you are using a transparent color, the color of your thread will alter the color of your bead. Your bead color will also be affected by the colors of beads placed nearby. Do some experimenting with this — you’ll see some surprising changes in colors. These changes, though slight, are an important consideration as you plan your project.

Finishes – where do we begin? We start with opaque and transparent. Then we find frosted and matte, a finish created by etching the glass. There’s a finish with a lovely satiny sheen. There are gorgeous colors finished in rainbow, iris, iridescent and Aurora Borealis (AB) … all of them impart a wondrous look. There’s also galvanized and metallic finishes. Some beads are lined with silver or gilt, giving them a glorious shine.

Different colors and finishes give your work depth and interest, but beware. The color in almost all beads can fade to some extent, particularly if they have extensive exposure to the sun, and finishes are affected by use. Metallic finishes can chip, and the lining in beads can rub off with wear. How distressing it is to create a lovely piece, only to have the colors fade or chip off! It’s a good idea to do a little research on the beads you’re about to select – talk with other beaders, with bead store owners, or get on the internet and search out the information you need. Then you can make your decision as to which color and finish will work best for your project.

In the end, whatever you choose, seed beads can be made into spectacular jewelry and decorative pieces. Now let’s go bead something pretty!

You can get a free book packed with tips for making the perfect French beaded flower right now. Written by top French beaded flower and Ganutell artist Sharon Foster it’s more than just a great book for the beginner, it has something for beaders of all levels.

Coping With Morning Sickness – The Dad’s Perspective

It’s funny, you think ‘morning sickness’ and automatically you picture some abstract lady all exhausted, feverish, moody and ready to hurl at the whiff of anything she doesn’t want to inhale at any particular moment in time. The lady is usually wearing pajamas with dirt all over it, her hair is greasy and the bags under her eyes could feed a family of six with their contents.

All of that is pretty specific, except wherever there’s a miserable wife, there is usually a miserable husband cleaning up after her, around her and sometimes, her.

Of course I can’t vouch for the part of the population who doesn’t care for their families when they are incapacitated, but in my family, you just do it. When my appendix almost burst on Easter in 2009, my wife didn’t ask me if I was going to make myself dinner, fold my own laundry, clean up after myself, or anything else. Rather than waiting for a bell to ring, she just stepped up and did those things for me and didn’t make me feel guilty for being delicate, unable to walk or stand up, in massive amounts of pain and generally a large bald lump on the end of the couch in front of the TV. I wasn’t even allowed to pick up my toddler son for an entire month; she did ev-er-y-thing.

Perhaps the most irritating part about having a wife with morning sickness is that you can’t reach in and make it all go away. You can’t stop the nausea, you can’t build her an appetite, you can’t force her to drink water, hell, most of the time you can’t even get her to smile or give you a positive answer to the question “How you feelin’ hon?”

So once you stop trying to heal her, all you can really do is continue to support her by doing all of the household activities around her, taking care of the other kid(s), and being her sounding board. When she tells you she’s going to throw up or that she just did, the standard sad face with the subtle head tilt is completely tolerable. When she tells you she can’t stand the smell of the garage and that it makes her gag, you stop opening the door to the garage when she’s home and you make her lil’ preggo-quirks seem completely normal by not laughing or commenting on them.

You usually hear about pregnant women and their odd cravings, but what about BEFORE those cravings hit? My wife couldn’t stand the smell of the food I would cook, so I had to resort to bringing home food for me and my son to eat, but then THAT scent started to make her sick. Do we leave her alone in the house while we go out to eat? No. We just find something else to eat. Special K worked for about 11 days in a row, and so what? It has essential vitamins and nutrients and isn’t half bad 21 meals in a row. At least my wife wasn’t made nauseous by the smell of my food.

Not only have I stepped in and taken over on household chores, all the shopping and carting around of the little one, but I’ve earned a brand new respect for my wife and her role in our growing family. (We have one toddler son and twins on the way.)

I’ve accepted that many of the duties that I’ve taken on as a support for her will now be consistently mine as we add two more lil’uns to the fray, but I don’t care to criticize or worry, if my wife and I can survive these 10 weeks, we can pretty much do anything together.
