Go Through Eddie Bauer Baby Gear Products Before You Buy Anything For the Baby

Very often, new parents buy a baby travel system, even before the baby arrives. Indeed, a stroller with a matching car seat is really handy if you use your car a lot. While in car, put the baby in car seat that is designed with the baby’s comfort and safety in mind and once you reach your destination, take out the stroller from the car, put the baby along with the car seat into the stroller, and be on your way. There is no need to awaken a sleepy baby or disturb him in any way.

However, once the baby arrives, many parents begin to complain about the bulkiness of the stroller and since a travel system will cost at least $200 or more, you should think twice before you buy it. Take for example the Eddie Bauer Safety First EuroStar Travel System. It costs $249.99, although, if you are lucky, you can have it for much less. It includes a stroller, an infant car seat and a stay-in-car seat base.

The car seat is the most important gear in the baby travel system, because it involves the question of the baby’s safety, as well as the comfort when you are traveling in car. Eddie Bauer Safety First EuroStar car seat provides a plush seating area with infant head support for comfortably cradling your baby. The stay in car seat base provides for quick and easy car seat installing and removal. Simply lock the car seat into the base for safe transportation and on reaching the destination, simply unlock and lift the car seat from the base and put it into the stroller.

Eddie Bauer Safety First EuroStar stroller has 1-hand fold and stand with self-locking features that minimizes the hassle of unfolding and folding the stroller. This lightweight, yet safe stroller has parent and child trays with cup-holders on each and an oversized spring down storage basket that holds everything for the baby’s day out. On top of every thing, the seating area provides infinite comforts and support for your baby, so that the baby may have any position it likes to have, from reclining to seating.

So which new parent will be able to resist such a piece de art? But, wait! Do you really need it? You will be much wiser if you look through all the Eddie Bauer baby gear products. Eddie Bauer has become almost the first name in baby gear system. They have some excellent car seat that you can buy separately and use with a separate stroller. Alternatively, you can and you should carry the baby in the car seat while you are traveling in the car. Once you reach your destination, put him in a sling or in a pouch. Eddie Bauer Convertible car seats can adjust to your child’s growth from newborn up to the age they can be put in the safety belts. Such a convertible car seat can cost you around $250. There are other designs that you may get for less.

Eddie Bauer baby gear has a variety of products. Some of them include:

2.separate car seats
3.Strollers of different designs; you have jogger’s strollers as well.
4.stroller saddle bags
5.stroller organizers
6.ring slings
7.diaper bags
8.bassinets
9.play yards
10.high chairs
11.digital video monitors etc

Baby diaper bags are indispensable, if you want to take the baby on a day’s outing and if you have a baby, you probably have one. Eddie Bauer too has a variety of diaper bags. Baby tote diaper bags combines versatility with convenience. With ample rooms the baby tote diaper bags not only allows you to carry baby’s items, but a bit of your own too.

There are mini diaper bags too. You can use them while running for quick errands, when you do not need a standard diaper bag. You can buy them in different colors to match your different dresses. Sling diaper bags are for you if you prefer to carry them on the shoulder or on the back. Backpacks are convenient if you are going for a hike or for a long walk. It keeps your hands free for other jobs.

Ideally, a diaper bag has to be specious enough with outside pockets for milk bottles and other things that you may need often enough. It will be nicer if the pockets are insulated, so that the baby food stays in the preferred temperature. It should have different compartments for different baby things, so that you do not have to take all the contents out for one little thing.

Encouraging Your Children To Read

Encouraging your child to read a wide variety of books is probably the best education you can give them – but sometimes it seems an uphill struggle! We have put together a collection of tips and tricks to encourage reading which may give you some ideas that will appeal to your kids and will fit into your family’s routines.

Library Day:

If you live near to a good library, you could designate one day of the week “Library Day”. In any event, try to visit regularly and spend time browsing through the books with your kids. Getting your kids their own library cards can be a huge incentive – and many libraries run special programs to encourage kids to take out books.

Read With Your Child:

Younger children like nothing better than to snuggle up with their parents to share reading time. You could try reading a page each – it helps to keep the pace up and make the story more interesting for your child, especially if they are struggling a little. You can also practice putting lots of expression into your reading: if your child learns to do this too, it will help their understanding (and of course prove useful when reading out loud at school!)

Read To Your Child:

Even adults like to be read to sometimes – so try not to grow out of the habit of reading to your kids! Obviously it helps when the kids are similar ages and have similar interests, but with a bit of perseverance you should be able to find something which you can read to all ages and enjoy! If not, split the reading up into age-groups, or perhaps ask an older sibling to read to a younger one occasionally.

Listen To Audio Books Too:

These days it is easy to get hold of audio books for some of the best children’s stories – either through your library or bookshops online and offline. You can also download audio books through iTunes or Audible for instant gratification, to be listened to either through an iPod or burned onto a CD. A good audio book can be enjoyed by all the family, whatever their ages, and can make a long car journey hugely enjoyable. Why not set up a club with friends so that you can swap and share to keep costs down?

Provide A Good Selection:

Just because a story was your favorite as a child, it is not necessarily going to be your child’s favorite too. Times have moved on and there is a huge selection of children’s literature easily available now. Let your kids dip into all kinds of stories and non-fiction to find what interests them. If you want them to love reading, you have to give them choice in what they read.

Finishing Books:

As adults we are not prepared to finish every book we begin – some are just plain dreary and we don’t have enough interest in them to see it through to the end. Your child is the same. My kids were expected to finish every reading book they took out at school before they were given the next, and frankly sometimes even I felt like jumping off the top of a tall building rather than read to the end! I’m not saying you should let them off finishing every single book, but if they are really not enjoying their current book, consider whether the writing and story are really good enough to insist.

Fiction v. Non-fiction:

Your child may not be a fiction lover, but don’t despair! Reading any well-written book is an achievement – and you can get a lot of good information and practice off the back of a cereal packet in the mornings! There are some wonderful children’s encyclopaedias available now, and various magazines for kids available by subscription which they will be really excited to receive each month in the post. The library will have shelves stocked with non-fiction for them to sample, and they may well end up being a fount of useful knowledge!

Reading Time:

Older kids can enjoy having a set “Reading Time” when everybody in the family – no exceptions – finds a comfortable place on a favorite chair or sofa and reads. Put some background music on if you like, refuse to answer the phone and drop all chores for the duration!

Keep A Record:

Sometimes keeping a record can make reading more fun – for all ages. You could buy each child a special notebook in which to record all the books they have read, and any thoughts they have on them. Encourage them to set up a rating system and share it with their friends! Young kids enjoy getting a sticker on a chart when they have finished a book.

Another lovely idea is to create a “caterpillar” by cutting out colorful circles of paper. Decorate one to look like a cheerful caterpillar’s face and then add circles for his body, one by one, each time your child finishes a book, writing the name of the book on the circle if you wish. You could have different colored circles for each member of the family if you like (and if your kids can cope with the competition).

One mother I know kept a notebook record of every book her son ever read, including the date started and finished, and a mark for “enjoyment factor”. After a while she started to stick in a small image for each book, taken off the internet, and her son (now a teenager) loves looking through his record and remembering his favorite stories.

Provide Bookmarks:

Reading can be made much more fun for kids by simple providing an appropriate bookmark! When they are young, try to find something on the same theme as the book (perhaps you could find some images on the internet to print off and laminate).

As the kids get older bookmarks can be more creative. Get the kids to help you make some one rainy day with scraps of card and ribbon, use some of their artwork, cut up old greeting cards and postcards, make collages from magazines, or use photographs of family and friends. Older kids can leave a message on the back of a bookmark and leave it in a favorite book for a younger sibling to find when they read the book later. Perhaps the older child could write a little about the book and why they enjoyed it, and put the date they finished it too. What a lovely surprise to find a few years later!

A "How To" – Casting on Knitting Needles

Knitted garments are very attractive and comfortable to wear. Many people who are not familiar with knitting may be intimidated by the process of knitting or impatient because of the process. The key to making a successful piece is having a good start and this can be done very easily if you know how. If you are able to start successfully you will see that the process if very easy because of its repetition. Many people find that knitting is relaxing because it is repetitive and because of the knowledge that some things are worth the amount of time put into them.

So, the first step is to start and this is called Casting On. This can be done with any kind of yarn and any gauge needle.

Step One: Unwind the yarn from skein. Make a loop and knot it. Make sure the looped knot is close to the end. This is your first cast-on and it is also the beginning of your garment. The purpose of the knot is to make sure your garment does not unravel. Make sure that the size of the loop is close to the size of your needle’s gauge.

Step Two: Insert the needle into the loop. Depending on how many cast ons you have to do, place the first cast on towards the base of the needle. If it is two tight do not worry, it will adjust to the size of the needle.

Step Three: Take the yarn between your fingers and make a loop. Put it onto the needle so that it is locked into place. If the loop can be unraveled, it has been done incorrectly. Also, depending upon how tight you want your stitches to be, make sure that there is no excess amount of yarn in between your cast-ons.

Step Four: Look at how many cast ons your knitting pattern calls for and then repeat step three. When you are done casting on you can start knitting from your last cast on.

Compost Crock

Have you recently started a compost bin but find that it’s an annoying chore to constantly bring your kitchen scraps out to it??What good is a compost bin outside when most of the stuff that you want to put into it is in your kitchen??If you want to collect kitchen scraps for your compost bin you should really own a compost crock.?/p>

A compost crock looks like a cookie jar but instead of storing cookies in it, you store garbage.?Put your used coffee grinds, eggshells, vegetable peelings or fruit rinds in there for safekeeping.?When it’s filled up, then you bring it out to your compost bin.?What could be easier??Now there’s no need to walk outside every time you make a cup of coffee or peel a carrot.?Just pop the waste into your kitchen compost crock and you can take it outside another time.?/p>

Now you may be thinking that it sounds pretty gross to store this waste in your kitchen.?Well don’t worry about smells because you can get a compost crock with a filter built right into the lid.?With a carbon filter eliminating the odors, you won’t even know it’s in your kitchen.?/p>

Kitchen composters come in either stainless steel or ceramic versions so choose one that best fits the d飯r of your kitchen.?Now just because you can save your organic waste in a kitchen crock doesn’t mean that it’s okay to get lazy and never empty the contents into your compost bin.?Now that would be gross.?Depending on the size of your family you will probably have to empty it at least once a week.?I suggest owning two compost crocks.?/p>

After you empty your indoor composter, it’s a good idea to rinse it out.?A quick blast from the hose while you’re outside is fine or you can clean it back in your kitchen sink.?Every once in a while you may want to give it a thorough cleaning in the dishwasher.?/p>

Stop throwing away those banana peels, tea bags and anything else that could be used in your compost bin to make an terrific organic fertilizer.?It’s almost like throwing out money.?A compost crock will make saving these items more convenient and that will make composting more convenient too.

Understanding the Different Types of Strollers

Umbrella strollers and lightweight strollers fill a important niche for babies and parents. They are both inexpensive, especially compared to the full-sized and mid-sized strollers. They get the job done; baby is moved safely and easily, but they are distinct from the other types of strollers available.

Umbrella strollers, the sling seated strollers with the two curved handles, are available from under $20 to about $50. They are often found at garage and yard sales for just a couple of dollars. Many new Moms get an umbrella stroller for a shower gift.

The trustworthy umbrella strollers have and do the basics. However, they lack storage space. It is either non-existent or at a premium. But, that can be OK, because the umbrella strollers have other attributes that set them apart from the lightweight, mid-sized and full-sized strollers.

Umbrella strollers fold up so small and are so light, you could almost put them in your tote bag. OK, maybe that would require a huge bag, but umbrella strollers fit easily in you car. The trunk, an unoccupied seat or even on the floor can offer an umbrella stroller room to ride. Their small size and portability make them a welcome stow-away in your car. Just tuck them in any unused corner, away you go, knowing that you will have your umbrella stroller at the ready when you arrive at your destination.

Even better, the umbrella stroller fits in most airlines’ overhead bins. This makes it the most convenient type of stroller for travelers.

Lightweight strollers offer more features than their diminutive buddies the umbrella stroller, but have fewer features than their more robust associates the mid- and full-sized strollers. Still the lightweight strollers have their useful place in the baby’s transportation collection. Lightweights are perfect for baby’s first stroller.

This type of stroller offers a full side-to-side handle that allows the person pushing to use just one hand, which can be a real advantage for families with a child who is walking as well as their stroller baby.

A number of lightweight strollers offer to hold baby’s carrier and wheel it around. That way baby can be reclining while traveling. These do not usually have seats and must have the addition of a baby carrier to work properly. Make sure if you select one of these type of lightweight strollers that you have the proper manufacturer and model of baby carrier to properly fit the stroller frame.

Lightweight strollers do come a s a complete stroller as well. These look more like the mid-and full-sized strollers, but weigh less. The lightweight strollers manufacturers produce useful accessories such as rain covers and sun-shade screens. These are usually offered at an additional price.

While we are thinking about price, the lightweight strollers have a lightweight price too. They range from the low $60 to the $150 range.

If you consider either a lightweight or an umbrella stroller, an experienced Mom suggested that a good inspection of the front wheels is a precaution worth considering. She said that in her experience with these types of strollers, the wheels kept falling off. Remember, however, that both the lightweight stroller and the umbrella strollers have the lowest prices of all the stroller types. Shop around, think of the different uses you want your stroller to handle. Figure out your budget. Decide how long this stroller needs to last. Then you will know which is the stroller for your baby.

You can find a helpful umbrella stroller buying guide and additional lightweight stroller information to help in your baby gear buying decisions at Aha! Baby.

How to Start a Vintage Girdles Collection

Vintage girdles are different from regular girdles that we know in the present day. They are usually hand sewn and not mass manufactured. Some vintage girdle will be pristine because it was never worn, while pieces that were worn may have slight imperfections. When you start your collection, you want to make sure you get the real thing and in top notch condition. When you are to shop in person, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Look at the items over carefully before you buy. Genuine retailers will always cover your vintage girdles in high quality tissue paper to avoid it from cracks and damage.

Sizing has been altered considerably over the years. A modern size 12 will be noticeably bigger than a size 12 from the fifties. In addition, sizing also varies in different countries such as a US size 12 is different from a UK size 12. Please remember this important tip if you are ordering online.

Before starting a vintage girdle’s collection, please make sure that the vintage girdles are not made of the same material as the modern-day counterparts such as Lycra and spandex. Instead, original vintage girdles relied on lots of elastic and “boning” to hold a figure in place. After the 15th century onward a number of manufacturers used foam rubber as filling in their corsets and corselets. Unfortunately for these, vintage girdles contain latex which breaks easily over time and foam rubber frequently becomes rock hard and inflexible.

If you decide to shop online for vintage girdles, make sure the website describes the condition of the fabric. You can extend the life of the girdle by cleaning it with mild soaps and cool water. Putting it into the washing machine is a big no-no. A hand wash and air dry are essential for making them last. Make sure you look out for girdles that show no rust, spotless, no perishing of fabrics and without storage mask and smell.

The older the item and in great condition is likely to be more valuable than a more recent item. Girdles from the forties often had the ‘utility label’. Older girdles will have rubber, cotton and rayon rather than Lycra in the modern garments. If you see a washing machine icon then it is more likely to be a modern garment. If you manage to find ‘new old stock’ or NOS, you’re in luck as not only these girdles have labels intact but the original cardboard sales tag will be on the garment, and maybe even the original packaging.

Often, the corsets of these types are either laced or beaded. Because of having laced they must be hand sewn because lace is very complex and delicate. The lace used is usually black or white. Vintage girdles are usually black, white, light blue, or powder blue in color. The boning is also more flexible than a regular girdle. Once you begin learning about different lingerie manufacturers, you’ll see which companies excel in form as well as function.

Vintage clothing has made a comeback and will be a part of the world of fashion for years to come. Collecting for investment tends to be risky because understated deterioration can be ongoing without expert care. So treat vintage girdles like the precious pieces they are and you will end up with a quality of vintage girdles collection.

Bullying – 10 Tips to Support Your Children

With bullying such a common problem in today’s society parents can’t afford to ignore this issue. Here are 10 quick tips for parents to be proactive about bullying. These ideas will help children feel better about themselves and consider the feelings of others – useful strategies for children whether they are being bullied or are doing the bullying.

1.Respect your child’s positive qualities and tell them what they are to boost their self-esteem. The better children feel about themselves the more bully proof they are and the less likely they are to bully others.

2.Model respectful behavior yourself – our children copy what we do. E.g. How do you react if someone cuts you off in traffic and your children are in the car?

3.Listen to your children with empathy so they grow to show it for others. Saying things like “That must have been very scary for you” helps your children, because their feelings are being acknowledged and they truly feel heard.

4.Encourage your child’s social and emotional intelligence by talking about feelings and how other people feel. Questions like: “What do you think it was like for the others when that happened?” help children to see things from outside of their egocentric point of view.

5.Talk to your children about aggressive, submissive and assertive behavior so they understand about power in relationships.

6.Notice when your children are behaving well and tell them! Focusing on positive behavior is such a simple way to get more of it as well as boosting your children’s self-esteem!

7.Give your children opportunities to share their ideas about fighting and bullying and what might work to stop it. Ask questions like: “If … happened, what could you do to keep yourself safe?” to allow children to work out what they could do by themselves.

8.Teach them some concrete strategies to try as well. E.g. instead of focusing on the bullying imagine the bully swelling up and popping. Strategies like this which help a child stay calm can be very helpful. When children learn to be aware of their reactions and the part this plays in being bullied, they can choose to react differently.

9.Stay up to date with your child’s school’s bullying policy and about bullying in general. What do you know about bullying and technology? Find out more about cyberbullying so you are informed.

10.Support your children in solving their own fights or bullying issues rather than stepping in and doing it for them. Remember your response as a parent models a powerful message for your children.

Two coaching questions that are helpful around bullying are:

1.How do I show respect to my children?
2.Am I supporting them to solve their own problems?

If you ask yourselves coaching questions such as these everyday you will be building a close and loving relationship with your children as well as supporting them to deal with bullying and other challenges to the best of their capabilities. After all, isn’t this what children need as they grow towards independence?

Barbara Beccari M.Ed and parent-coach, is co-author of a beautiful children’s picture book about respectful relationships. You Are Your Child’s Role Model?

As I write this article, I am going to discuss the behavior of your child when he or she becomes frustrated. This frustration can be because of a lost toy, not wanting to eat or anything else. I am going to tell you what you should do during this time and why you should do it. If you find that your child gets frustrated a lot, then I highly recommend you reading this article. Remember, as you are reading this article, no matter what you believe, you are the child’s role model. That child is looking up to you at all times, even during frustrated moments.

When a child is very frustrated and starts to lose their cool, the most important thing you will need to do in this case would be to stay calm. During this time, your child will be in a frustrated moment and have a problem that they do not know how to solve. If you start to lose your cool, then you will be in the same frustrated moment that you do not know how to solve.

Sure, the child may be going through a difficult problem and he or she does not know how to ask for what they want. You are out of control and you do not know how to calm down. If you would like to calm them down during that frustrating moment, you will need to be calm.

The faster you calm down, the quicker the child will be following your lead. You see, it’s all about modeling.

Children who grow up with parents that are calm will be more likely to know how to deal with frustrating moments However, for those children that go through life with parents who do not know how to deal with children who are frustrated and become frustrated themselves, the children will copy them.

Do you want to learn exactly how to eliminate your child’s out-of-control and defiant behavior without using Punishments, Time-Outs, Behavioral Plans, or Rewards?
