Beginner Quilting Tip – Instruction For Beginners For Quilting

Given a chance anybody and everybody would love the idea of having a nap in a warm quilt so why not try making one yourself. Colors are many and materials are like inviting, and by the time you have made one for yourself you shall be happier in more than one way.

First and foremost, those who are beginners and have little knowledge of the techniques involved it is highly recommend that few basic principles or instructions be taken into account so that the process of making a quilt is an experience worth remembering.

1. MAKE IT SIMPLE:

Simplicity can do wonders with your work. Pick a simple design; take cotton, as fabric, cotton threads and material of primary quilt type would vastly improve the rate at which a beginner could grasp the method of making one.

Starters can choose either a simple block design or a bargello design would be ideal this purpose. A fancy and intricate design such as yoyo quilts is something that you try after gaining acquaintance with quilt making. Start with 3-4-color combination and then color mixture can be infinite.

2. DO PREWASH FABRIC:

Prewashing is like – essential. It just makes sure that you do away with fabrics that can later shrink or fabric color possibly fading off. Prewashing allows you to eliminate fabrics that shrink or fade color on washing.

In that case look for prewashed materials. Another important, you should make sure to let the material be completely dried up and ironed out before you kick start the process of cutting the fabric and giving it shape. Material like linens and cottons should prewashed in particular.

3. THE PATTERN CHOICE:

To get your quilt making process of to a hassle free start use simple patterns coupled with a quilt type that supports your simple idea. Again simplicity will help to complete this process easily, although intricate designs have a more appealing ambiance.

As it stands you shall be better off keeping away from trying to make something and ending up with not finishing it at all, the mantra is keep it simple and let that be beautiful.

4. QUILTING STEPS:

Wanting to start is one thing and knowing how to start is all together different propositions, understanding the steps well is therefore a necessity. There are 4 steps involved in quilting basically – layering, binding, piecing, and quilting.

Did you have an idea that quilts are sewed from the middle to outside? The main step is piecing. This forms the top most layer which is the determining pattern. Various parts of fabrics are first put in place and then carefully stitched cohesively to create a predetermined design.

What is a layer? Well making 3 layers joined together is layering, namely top, the underlining and the batting layer. The whole process of quilting requires the stitching of 3 different layers into one single block/piece.

Different methods of stitching can be applied here. Binding is the final step. By binding we mean giving the concluding touch to the quilt, make a nice border to conceal the ragged fabric edges.

Now that you know the requirements as well as the preliminary procedure to build you lovely own quilt I am sure you would like to buy the material and enjoy the experience.

Does it Matter Where You Hold the Party? 3 Tips to Think About

As a Party Planner, I have seen some horrendous decisions made when it came to venues for a Party. A typical Party that is more informal can have a various amount of locales that will please providing they fit to theme of the Party and taking into account your style. But when it comes to the more formal affair, a lot must be considered when it comes to Planning for your Party.

Tip 1: Always be aware of the image you plan to establish for the guests. If it is a fundraising event, you will want to portray an image of success that give the potential donor to feel comfortable in giving. There is nothing more disturbing than having a poor venue that leaves the guests feeling like they cannot give freely.

Tip 2: Be ever mindful of the amount of work that is needed to make a Party Venue pleasing for your event. With that being said, again it comes down to your basic intent and the grandness of your theme. If you are planning to build an elaborate set to give off a certain image, then you will need as open space as you can get. If you needed more opulence from a design standpoint, maybe decide on the character of a restored historic facility. The point is that you have to tailor the Event Venue to your specific needs. I have seen more work than is necessary that takes not only a toll on the budget, but zaps the Event Planning staff in the process on Events that should not have been so.

Tip 3: Always the biggest factor; The Budget. This is usually a determining factor for most Party Planning and sometimes it is used as a way to stop adequate planning. what I mean is that the Planning is often restricted because a venues mere obtainment decreases the budget for the rest of the Party. You must be ever mindful of the resources you have available. Sometimes it is better to take a fairly open hall and build a set that accommodates the party and many times with less money. This is where hiring a community theatre set designer, who are always looking for extra money, to come in and build a set for you.

So there you have it, image, available resources and budget. Keeping those three factors in mind will give you a start in our planning

Accepting Nature When Birding

Flip on a program on the natural world and you would swear that tigers and water buffalo sleep curled up together at nice in peaceful bliss. Unfortunately, the natural world doesn’t really work this way and you need to keep this in mind when birding.

Getting out into the wild is a good move for just about anyone. It can give you a break from the rat race and some fresh air never hurt anyone. All that being said, the natural world is both a beautiful place and a WILD place.

Far too many nature lovers would have you believe that we are destroying the world and should be kinder to animals. Well, they are right for the most part. Still, it is important to grasp that fact that nature isn’t always a nice place. It is a place of predators and prey. It is a place of unfortunate events. This is just the way nature is, so you need to accept it.

When birding, you may see some things that cause you some distress. There are predators in the bird kingdom. The come in the form of bigger and badder bird species higher on the food chain. They also come in the form of predators on the ground that find nests and such. Inevitably, you will see a predator find prey and,…well…do what predators do to prey.

At this point, you may develop a strong urge to take action or it may just upset you to know end. You should try to pull back and realize the natural world is a dog eat dog place. Interfering in a situation is just that…interfering. If it really bothers you, it is probably better to call it a day and walk away then to take action.

I once watched a show on hypos in Africa. A part of the show was devoted to a mother hippo and her babe. Everything was blissful and cute. Then one of the other male hippos became territorial and essentially hunted the baby hippo and killed it. Despite having spent time in the wild, I was furious. I couldn’t sleep I was so angry. In short, it makes me a bit of a hypocrite to write this article, but it also means I know how you feel and that you just have to deal with it.

The natural world is going to exist and things are going to happen whether you are okay with it or not. Try to recognize the amazing circle of life and don’t let it get you down.

How to Stop Using Caffeine to Increase Fertility

I don’t know about you, but one thing I love in the morning is a cup of coffee. Not only does it help me wake up to start my day but it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. When I was trying to become pregnant with my son my doctor told me to stop that habit of mine and these are the reasons why.

Studies have shown that caffeine decreases fertility and increases the risk of miscarriage. It can also cause low birth weight in your child.

When you drink products that contain caffeine you have the tendency to urinate more frequently since it is a diuretic. This removes fluid and calcium from your body that you need to care for your baby.

You need iron in your body when trying to conceive and carry a baby but caffeine interferes with the way your body absorbs iron so you could become anemic.

Trying to get pregnant is stressful enough so adding caffeine is not a good idea. Caffeine is known to give people insomnia and even mood swings which can stress out not only you but also your partner.

One thing you must understand is that caffeine is not just in coffee but also tea, chocolate milk, soft drinks and certain foods so make a habit of checking the amount you intake during the day.

Doctors can not decide if you should completely remove caffeine from your diet or limit the use so I chose to stop completely because I would rather be safe than sorry.

Tips on Giving Away Old Baby Clothes

Ever-engaged mothers eternally look for options to simplify their daily activities. It is not easy getting rid of outgrown clothes along with all of the other things your family, house, and job demands of you. An easy way of ridding yourself of baby clothes that your kids have outgrown organized is to use three boxes.

To begin with, it is of prime importance that the boxes are labeled, so that it is clear what should go in which box. It will help a lot to write something on the boxes that make them identifiable. Be sure to write the words “little Johnny’s outgrown baby clothes” on them. One box should be labeled as “give away”. Make sure you have the word “sell” written on a separate box. Now, on the final box, write the words “To be tossed”. Use that throwaway box for your clothing items which cannot be fixed or have stains on them, but donate other clothing.

Those old baby clothes should be organized now! Go through the collection of clothes quickly. First instincts are mostly right anytime. Place each item in a logical box or bin. Check to see if the clothes are new and have not been worn. Consigning them to the “sell” list would be a fine option. If they are no longer going to be worn, but are still in decent shape, then these are the clothes for the “donation” box. Is that a big yogurt stain on that bib? Just put it directly into the ‘”to be tossed” box. Throw out the last box, putting it next to the trash and recycling bins. Instead of discarding away all those clothes to the garbage dump, it is quite likely that somebody might find them worth using and might pick up the box they are put in. They may even have a use for them for pets’ bedding etc.

After the separating is finished, you should take the boxes or bins into the garage or car. If a certain person can utilize the “free” box, just bring it directly to them. If that isn’t the case, then it’s time for you and the box to take a trip down to your neighborhood thrift store. You should immediately begin trying to get rid of your “sell items” on web sites or trading spots in your area. There are consignment stores in some towns where you can sell your old baby clothes. Those stores have two options of either store credit or cash against clothes brought in by the moms. For trash day put the “throw away” box out at your curb. If you want to get rid of some items, place them into a box labeled “free” and it will soon be taken.

10 Ways To Brighten The Holidays

Christmas is just around the corner and soon it will be mass pandemonium. Even though many of us shop online, many of us will still be standing in long lines, making last minute purchases, fighting for parking spaces and struggling to find the best electronics, music, clothing and gifts for our families, friends and loved ones. As we concern ourselves buying gifts for the people we care about, maybe we could take a minute to think about the people who are less fortunate and what we could do to make their holiday season a little better as well. Here are a few ideas to help spread some holiday cheer.

1) Do you have unused blankets taking up space in your closets? Why not donate them to a homeless shelter or shelter for battered women?

2) How about going through clothing that you and your family members have outgrown or no longer wear? A coat could help keep someone warm who doesn抰 have one. A pair of shoes could keep someone抯 feet warm and dry.

3) Why not take the time to make a gift basket for an elderly person or neighbor who you don抰 see very often and take a few minutes to visit them?

4) Is there a divorcee or widowed person in your neighborhood who may need some work done around their home? Fixing something or cleaning the house of someone for free, when it is hard for them to get around, could be a big help.

5) Volunteering for Sub For Santa could be a real blessing for a family in need.

6) Serving or donating a holiday dinner could brighten someone抯 day, especially if they are down on their luck, and can抰 afford it themselves.

7) Sometimes just spending the time to talk to someone can greatly improve their lives. Maybe there is a confused teenager or child who could use some encouragement or direction in their lives.

8) If you have the time, visiting a hospital, reading to the elderly, caroling or visiting the sick could help to cheer them up. Some of these people have no friends or family to visit them and end up spending the holidays alone.

9) Donating to your favorite charity can change lives.

10) Try to be as patient and kind as possible. The holidays can be very stressful at times. If you smile and show patience even when you don抰 feel like it, you may be surprised how helpful that can be at defusing potentially unpleasant situations.

There is a whole big world out there and we are all a part of it. By helping others, we help ourselves to make a better world for us to live in. Little gestures can mean a lot. We can make each year a little better than the last if we try. Happy Holidays!

Kids and Chores – Make it Easy on Yourself!

My neighbors’ kid impressed me the other day.

I was busy painting the backyard fence, when their ten-year old son came out with the vacuum cleaner. He opened the front panel, removed the bag, and put it in the bin. Then he took a replacement bag, fitted it, and went back indoors – probably to get on with the vacuum cleaning!

Fifteen minutes later he came out with a large plastic rubbish bag and put it in the bin too. The young kid was at ease with his chores. He was his usual pleasant self and there was no sign of moodiness or resentment.

Clearly his parents had taught their kids in a way which – I have to admit!- my wife and I didn’t teach ours.

When our family was growing we tended to do most of the chores ourselves. We were keen – well, my wife was keen! – to ensure that we shared the chores as a couple.

This approach backfired as the kids were growing. Since there was no clearly defined ‘chore chart’ and since requests for their help were only made occasionally, there was a certain reluctance most of the time.

Even today there can be the odd dispute about who should walk the dog – and loading the dishwasher, it seems, is one of life’s mysteries revealed only to parents.

So here’s my advice:

Don’t do what we did!

Be like our neighbors and start them young. Bring them up to realize that if you live in a home, you contribute to the home. If they grow into this routine, there’s unlikely to be resentment or ill-feeling – provided the chores are allocated fairly, of course.

What about parents whose older kids have got off lightly?

Well, you could continue to slave after your charges – but why not start a new regime?

One approach often suggested is that you appeal to the teenager’s sense of duty, highlighting their obligations to themselves and others.

But psychologists tell us that approach is the LEAST likely to work with teens.

It’s a fact of human nature that people tend to respond more when there’s a clear benefit for themselves.

So why not stress the benefits of getting involved in the household chores? Help them see it as an opportunity to develop confidence and independence. When they go off to college or move into a flat or apartment, how are they going to feel if they can’t cope?

How are they going to look in front of friends if they can’t cook, can’t wash and iron their clothes, and can’t tidy up after themselves? If they learn these skills, they won’t be stranded!

If your kids are coming to household chores after years of having things done for them, you may need to use a reward system to help them over their inertia. No, not gold stars and trips to the zoo!

Rather, ‘Mow the lawn and you can have the car on Friday night,’ or, ‘Let’s see what you can do around the house and we’ll review your allowance.’

And remember to show them HOW it’s done. You may want to consider working with them the first few times, especially if it’s a task they’ve never attempted before.

This approach has worked well for my wife and I, who are late-starters in the ‘chores for kids’ stakes.

Remember, if things are done out of a sense of ‘duty’, people tend to be ambivalent. On the one hand they may feel obliged to get on with it, but on the other they may resent it – and that builds up ill-feeling.

Use rewards by all means, but it’s better, I think, to help our kids realize that doing the chores is part of their development. That way they’re more likely to do them willingly.

This may be a tad idealistic, but this approach, when blended with an attractive reward, can lead to a well- deserved, easier life for hard-pressed parents.

Happy parenting!

Amniocentesis Information

The amniocentesis test is normally used to look at the genetic factors that are connected to genetic defects such as down syndrome, spina bifida and hydrocephalus. The test is invasive. An ultrasound is given to determine the whereabouts of the baby, a needle is inserted in the pregnant belly, into the amniotic fluid. Then a small amount of the amniotic is removed to use for testing.

An ultrasound is given afterward to make sure that all is well with the baby. The test can also 100% determine baby gender. Although this will not be the reason that the test was initially performed a number of women choose to find out whether they are carrying a baby boy or baby girl whilst it is being done. Women who are thinking about the test will be looking for Amniocentesis Information because of the risks involved.

It was thought that approximately 1 in 200 women will miscarry as a result of the test but with a recent study the figures have changed. It has now been shown that the number could be as little as 1 in 1000 women that could miscarry. It is common for women to experience abdominal pain or cramping when the needle is inserted and for a few hours after.

The Amniocentesis test is not offered to all pregnant women. It is normally offered to women over 35, have had previous children with birth defects, have a history of genetic defects in the family, have had results from a test that have indicated that there may be birth defects.
