When you are doing an inordinate supply of laundry, you will wonder how much longer your child will soil her clothes every single day. You will think you are living in the laundry room.
That’s how I felt during my daughter’s first several months of life. Every single day met with an outfit dirtied from a diaper unable to hold such a large load. I always was nervous to take her places because she might make an unmanageable mess. All too often I went to her bassinet and found her filthy.
To make less mess, be sure to purchase a waterproof bassinet pad. I absolutely loved my bassinet pad because it proved to be a huge time saver during those nasty midnight messes. Rather than having a seemingly impossible clean-up, you will only need some disinfectant spray or another cleaning agent to wipe the pad clean.
You can also purchase a water resistant bassinet mattress, which works similarly to the pad. There are even waterproof crib mattresses out there. You can just wipe them clean after they get soiled from a leaky diaper or a vomiting child. I found our waterproof crib mattress invaluable during my daughter’s bout with a stomach virus.
So, even though you will still have to remove your baby’s pajamas and bedding after a diaper leaks, when you get to the core of the situation, you will not have to deal with much. Remember, these months will go by very quickly; enjoy them while they last.
