Pregnancy Preparation: Who is a Baby Whisperer?

A baby whisper is a Dr. Mommy who inspires and instructs new Moms on building strong connections with their babies.

By learning a practice of simple and effective techniques, Moms can learn to whisper relaxing phrases to their babies before birth as the baby grows, and during and after delivery.

Why is this Practice Important?

Scientific research shows that when Mom is stessed before or after the birth the baby is stress as well. When Mom has higher level of stress hormones, the fetus heart beats faster. In other words, when Mom feels stress, the baby in the womb feels stress.

Infants also pick up on Mom’s anxiety. When levels of stress hormones become too high for extended periods mental or physical health can suffer. Again, when Mom feels anxiety, the infant feels anxiety.

And the opposite is true as well.

When Mom is relaxed, the baby in the womb is relaxed. When Mom is peaceful, the infant is peaceful too.

How and Why I Learned to Do This

“In 1973 I decided to do natural childbirth. Although I found the Lamaze techniques quite helpful, I needed more. I wish I had headphones and a tape with a soothing and familiar voice that talked me through a relaxation sequence. When I took Christopher Brett home I was a bundle of nerves and would have welcomed a comforting voice for both of us! Over the years I have worked successfully with new Moms using these techniques. One Mom laughed that the nurses were very curious about her headgear during labor.”

Practice Makes Perfect

When Mom learns to soothe herself, of “self-soothe,” the baby learns how to “self-soothe” both in the womb and after delivery.

The more a mom learns how to relax and be peaceful, the baby will feel relaxed and peaceful. This is crucial, because according to Neuroscientist Wayne Drevets, MD observes, in the brain, “Practice makes permanent.”

How to Induce Labor the Natural Way

Pregnancy can be the most exciting and at the same time, painful part of a woman’s life. This is mainly because of one thing: labor. Labor is equal to pain, and no pregnancy becomes successful without having to go through the most excruciating pain you can imagine. For those who have not yet experienced getting pregnant, labor is similar to having cramps when your period is almost up, except imagine the pain as ten times more intense! There would be times that when you experience the pain, you would need to stop doing whatever you’re doing for a few minutes and let the pain come in heaps; however, you should just remember that no amount of pain can ever replace the bundle of joy that you’re about to experience once your little one has finally been born.

Inducing labor the natural way is what most pregnant women would prefer especially if they are experiencing false labor or if they are not experiencing labor yet at all even during their baby’s 37th to 40th gestational week. There are natural ways which make use of things that can be bought in your local grocery store. Castor oil has been said to induce labor naturally by stimulating the bowels and triggering contractions in the uterus. Use castor oil by eating or drinking one large glass of orange juice containing castor oil or using it to rub the belly gently. Because the effect of castor oil can somehow aggravate the uterus into having contractions, this is not very advisable unless you check with your physician first before trying this method.

Natural herbal ingredients are also said to have some effect at inducing labor naturally. Evening primrose oil is usually recommended by midwives to be taken orally during the 34th gestational week, and then applied to the cervix during the full-term or the 36th week of pregnancy. However, no scientific evidence proves that the evening primrose does anything that the body doesn’t already do on its own. Another herbal ingredient used is the red raspberry leaf which is made into a tea, and used to tone the uterus, getting it ready for childbirth. Aromatherapy, along with applying or drinking teas with herbal ingredients that naturally induce labor, can also trigger contractions and allow the uterus to relax. Aromatherapy reduces the toxins in the body which in turn eliminates stress, fatigue, muscle tension, and other problems which may be causing false labor or for labor not to come at all.

There are other natural ways of inducing labor naturally. They say that sex and orgasm helps stimulate the uterus in order to have contractions which can lead to actual labor; however, remember to perform sexual intercourse by being mindful of the baby in the womb and doing the position that will not put any physical pressure at all on the belly of the mommy. Female orgasm stimulates uterine contractions and male semen produces Prostaglandin which helps in making the cervix ripe for childbirth. During or after bath, nipple stimulation is also encouraged because this method naturally stimulates the production of oxytocin which is a hormone that naturally induces labor in pregnant women.

Aside from having sex and other labor inducing methods during pregnancy, the most common way known to help induce labor naturally is to do continuous walking and other forms of non-strenuous exercises can also help in inducing labor naturally. This is because exercise helps contract the uterus which in turn leads to normal contractions and labor.

What Causes Cramps and Nausea During Pregnancy?

We all know that experiencing cramps and feeling nauseated during the long months of your pregnancy isn’t fun, but they are considered a completely normal thing to experience during the pregnancy months, and are medically documented. It is known for hundreds of years that those kind of symptoms arrive with a pregnancy and may last for several months, but usually die out after a certain period of time.

If you are pregnant than you probably noticed that the first of cramping and nausea are the most powerful during the first four months, but you need to take that information with a grain of salt, because some women experience those symptoms differently – for the better and for the worse. You experience two different things, and you need to treat them as such – as independent from one another. One thing may be caused from one thing, and another thing from another thing. They might seem to be the symptoms of the same “disease” but they might occur due to different issues, and can be treated, and should be treated, differently.

During the earlier stages of your pregnancy, cramping will be pretty common, but it indicates nothing serious – just bodily changes that appear when a baby develops. Sometimes in the early stages of your pregnancy you might mistake your cramps with periods, since sometimes small amounts of blood appear. This is the result of your uterus trying to fit itself to the newborn.

If you are worried about the appearance of blood during your pregnancy, don’t, since it’s only really serious if there are large amounts of blood, and if you also experience either pains and fevers. If that happens you should immediately go to a doctor and check for a solution and if everything is okay.

Consider cramps as something you need to endure, because its results are good – like morning sicknesses. If you are still worried about them hurting you or disrupting your daily routine, there are several steps you can take to combat and reduce those symptoms. One of the best known ways to treat the symptoms is to heat the area that hurts, which is used instead of medication that can hurt the pregnancy and the fetus. Never take a medication without first consulting your doctor about its consequences.

But with nausea, the treatment is harder to take. Studies have been done and theories have been written, but to this day, the science community is still unsure as to what causes those symptoms. There seem to be many possible causes, but no one is sure yet which is the specific one, and why it is caused.

You can feel better by knowing that nausea is limited in its amount of time experienced, and it often manifests during the first trimester, and after that will slowly settle down and disappear. You can, in the meantime, reduce its effect on your life style and health, and you may also control it in a limited capacity. Just make sure that you are plenty hydrated, and avoid alcohol, sodas, spicy food and caffeine which might increase the level of nausea.

Another method that was tested is acupuncture which was found to be an effective way to treat the nausea and other symptoms that manifest themselves during your pregnancy. You should consider checking it out.

Benefits of the 5-Day Embryo Transfer For IVF Procedures

In some IVF procedures, doctors may wait three days before transferring embryos to the uterus, while a five day transfer is used by others. The advantages and disadvantages may be debated by the scientific community, but understanding the pros and cons of such a procedure is important for infertile couples interested in the in vitro fertilization procedure.

Of course, a fertility specialist should be alongside when making such a decision, as their knowledge and experience is certainly something that couples should take advantage of when making such a decision.

Waiting five days before transferring embryos to the uterus allows the doctor to select the highest quality embryos for transfer. Choosing the best quality embryos for transfer is important for infertile couples, as it gives them a better chance of becoming pregnant.

An embryo that has been allowed to develop for five days is called a blastocyst. These embryos have developed two cell types and a center cavity filled with fluid. For more information about blastocyst embryos, patients should speak to a doctor in the field. In many cases, more educated patients turn out to be more successful patient, so consulting with a physician regarding this procedure may be beneficial to the couple.

One of the advantages of a five day transfer for IVF procedures is that five days is a more natural time for the embryo to make its way into the uterus. Many IVF procedures perform a transfer after two or three days, but embryos of this age are usually found in the fallopian tubes. Transferring after five days instead of two or three may reduce the risk of multiple births as well.

After two or three days, it may be more difficult to determine which embryos will be healthy enough to develop, while culturing embryos for five days will often give doctors a better idea of which embryos will be more likely to develop long-term. Therefore, fewer embryos may be transferred, which decreases the risk of multiple births.

The disadvantages associated with this method are minimal if the clinic performing the procedure is well-equipped and has quality control measures in place. Clinics with less than optimal culture environments may not have the same success rate as proficient clinics, making clinic selection an important task in this procedure.

Less than optimal clinics may have greater success with two or three day ivf transfer methods. Speaking to a medical professional at a proficient clinic is important for couples interested in this procedure.

Feel Comfortable During Your Pregnancy with Memory Foam Pillows

Lately, pregnancy pillows have appeared on the market in hundreds of versions, aiming at helping expecting mothers deal with all the inconveniences of pregnancies. But one of the most important inventions is in the form of memory foam pillows. Any expecting mother deals with lack of sleep and discomfort when lying down. This is because as the baby grows so does the tummy of the mother. During sleep, the tummy needs upholding, and pillows specifically designed for this purpose lessen back pain and diminish soreness during side-sleep.

NASA invented memory foam pillows to help astronauts in combating gravity, but nowadays we have transformed them to adjust a number of common products to help people get better rest. The material belongs to the same family as the synthetic polyurethane foam (conventional foam in mattresses and seats) with extra chemicals that put in weight and density and create a special molecular makeup as compared to the traditional foam. Good quality foam maintains the impression of your body for a few seconds and not longer because elsewhere it would weaken quickly.

Pregnancy pillows made with such foam include regulating memory pillows, banana pillows, and easy-feed pillows. Adjustable foam pillows can help you from the beginning to the end of the pregnancy, sustaining the belly throughout side sleeping and lessening any pain. Banana pillows also covered in this type of foam have many uses, helping you sit up in bed or get rest that is more comfortable by sustaining your spine. You can hold banana pillows between your knees to support the spine and alleviate any strain.

Once the baby is born, it is a truly good idea to purchase an angled feeding pillow that helps the baby breathe and swallow safely and further helps alleviate tension in the mother’s arms, shoulder, neck, and back allowing her to relax.

Undoubtedly, memory foam is not useful only for pregnant women but also for anybody because pillows made from such foam reduce any discomfort while sleeping or just sitting back and relaxing. Such pillows are very useful in hospitals for recuperating patients because they reduce pressure on certain areas and make available great quality relaxation.

Memory foam pillows reduce snoring and even back pain caused by sitting at a desk for long periods. Such products can be used anywhere and are designed to keep your spine straight and relaxed and reduce any pressure sores caused by bad mattresses or chairs. These products include some mattress tops that help you get better rest and guarantee that you will never wake up stiff and soar again.

Memory foam pillows and mattress tops have a high-quality finish and come in different colors and materials. You can find satin slipcovers for pillows or products with a water-resistant finish to help cleaning. Good quality pillows can help you reduce snoring or do away with back pain, edema, and swelling and improve circulation and support. In addition, these several pregnancy pillows and mother and baby items will make your life a lot easier and happier.

Such products are both soft and firm, and pillows have a shape that gives good support to your neck while offering support to the natural bend of your spine. Getting a good rest is vital to everything you do. You will be happier and more aware of things around you if you have benefited from genuine relaxation. It is also very important to feel relaxed and rested during pregnancy; in this manner, pregnancy pillows will improve your life significantly.

How to Stop Using Caffeine to Increase Fertility

I don’t know about you, but one thing I love in the morning is a cup of coffee. Not only does it help me wake up to start my day but it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. When I was trying to become pregnant with my son my doctor told me to stop that habit of mine and these are the reasons why.

Studies have shown that caffeine decreases fertility and increases the risk of miscarriage. It can also cause low birth weight in your child.

When you drink products that contain caffeine you have the tendency to urinate more frequently since it is a diuretic. This removes fluid and calcium from your body that you need to care for your baby.

You need iron in your body when trying to conceive and carry a baby but caffeine interferes with the way your body absorbs iron so you could become anemic.

Trying to get pregnant is stressful enough so adding caffeine is not a good idea. Caffeine is known to give people insomnia and even mood swings which can stress out not only you but also your partner.

One thing you must understand is that caffeine is not just in coffee but also tea, chocolate milk, soft drinks and certain foods so make a habit of checking the amount you intake during the day.

Doctors can not decide if you should completely remove caffeine from your diet or limit the use so I chose to stop completely because I would rather be safe than sorry.

Amniocentesis Information

The amniocentesis test is normally used to look at the genetic factors that are connected to genetic defects such as down syndrome, spina bifida and hydrocephalus. The test is invasive. An ultrasound is given to determine the whereabouts of the baby, a needle is inserted in the pregnant belly, into the amniotic fluid. Then a small amount of the amniotic is removed to use for testing.

An ultrasound is given afterward to make sure that all is well with the baby. The test can also 100% determine baby gender. Although this will not be the reason that the test was initially performed a number of women choose to find out whether they are carrying a baby boy or baby girl whilst it is being done. Women who are thinking about the test will be looking for Amniocentesis Information because of the risks involved.

It was thought that approximately 1 in 200 women will miscarry as a result of the test but with a recent study the figures have changed. It has now been shown that the number could be as little as 1 in 1000 women that could miscarry. It is common for women to experience abdominal pain or cramping when the needle is inserted and for a few hours after.

The Amniocentesis test is not offered to all pregnant women. It is normally offered to women over 35, have had previous children with birth defects, have a history of genetic defects in the family, have had results from a test that have indicated that there may be birth defects.

7 Simple Steps To Avoid Pain In Labor And Have An Easy, Short, Relaxed And Comfortable Birth

The first thing we think of when we think of childbirth is PAIN! If someone in the streets walks up to you right now saying “YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE AN EASY, SHORT, RELAXED AND COMFORTABLE LABOR”, what is your reaction going to be? You are probably thinking “Yeah right, You probably don’t know a thing about birthing!” But hey, take a minute to listen to that again in your head? How nice it would be if it were true? Can we truly really have an easy, short, relaxed and comfortable labor?

YES, now YOU can, in seven simple steps. Here is how:

1. Linking childbirth to pleasure

Human Beings are actually very simple creatures. All our actions are linked towards getting even more pleasure and doing as much as we can to avoid pain.

So the first thing we need to do is to link childbirth to pleasure instead of pain. You must be joking you say but do this now. Take your pen and paper and ask yourself these two questions:

(a) What will i GAIN if i have an easy labor and birth? (So list down ALL the BENEFITS you, your baby and your husband is going to derive from this NOW!

Yes, i mean right now, just let your pen flow and keep on writing for at least 5 minutes non-stop!)

(b) What will it COST me if i do not have an easy labor and birth? (list down all the pain you are you going to get by not getting this easy labor and birth!)

What you then do is to look at this list every day and add on to this list everyday. As you read this list, you don’t just read it, i want you to engage all the emotions in your body, charge it all up, and imagine all the benefits and pleasure you are going to get from having an easy, short, relaxed and comfortable labor.

2. Positive Affirmations

I want you to list down all your negative thoughts, fears and concerns about this pregnancy, labor, birth and parenting. After you have done that, i want you
to change all your negative thoughts, fears and concerns into something positive. Thats right, you heard me. Change it into something positive.

That was tough wasn’t it, but it gets easier the more the do it. Now as you go through the list of positive affirmations, i want you to ensure that you use
Active present tense or present tense, AS IF it is already happening to you right now.

For example:

Fear of pain during labor and birth

The positive affirmation can be:

“I am getting better at having an easy, short, relaxed and comfortable labor with the techniques that i am learning.” (active present tense)

“My labor and birth is EASY, SHORT, RELAXED AND COMFORTABLE!” (present tense)

Then what i want you to do is write these affirmations on post it notes and paste them around in the house and repeat the positive affirmation to yourself whenever you see the post it notes at least twice a day. If your brain talks back to you when you use present tense, then start with active present tense
until your brains gets the idea that you are INDEED going to have an easy, short, relaxed and comfortable labor and birth.

3. Breathing Techniques

“I forgot the breathing techniques i learned in class” is something common that we always hear. I am going to teach you effective birthing techniques that
works with your body, and women swear by it, so listen well.

Breathe in from your diaphragm to a slow count up to 8 or 10, and slowly breathe out. Practice this breathe 10 times a day EVERY DAY.

Its easy, you get this done in minutes. The key is practice and conditioning your body to this breathing technique so it becomes second nature to you during labor and birth, so do it now.

4. Relaxation Techniques

To have an easy, short, relaxed and comfortable labor means that we need to be as physically and mentally relaxed as possible. But how are we going to do that when we are supposed to be experiencing pain during labor and birth?

Like the breathing exercise, it is CRUCIAL and IMPERATIVE that you practice this DAILY!!! Need i emphasize more?

Here’s what you.

(a) Take a nice deep breathe and close your eyes.

(b) Focus on your breath – take slow and deep breaths.

(c) Now imagine that you are scanning your body. If there is any tension in your body, take a nice deep breath and release that tension you are holding on
to as you exhale. Do that until your body is completely relaxed

(d) Then anchor yourself to your breath by telling yourself mentally in your mind “every breath takes me deeper and deeper relaxed.”

Thats it, easy isn’t it. Do this at least once a day, its easy, do it right now.

5. Visualisation Techniques

“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.” – Napoleon Hill

We CAN work with our mind to have an EASY, SHORT, RELAXED & COMFORTABLE labor and birth by visualizing it happening to us, AS IF it is already happening, so engage all your emotions a couple of minutes a day visualizing the kind of labor and birth you would like to have and how long you would like to be in labor for. If you find this challenging, then watch positive birth videos of women having easy births and visualize that over and over and over again until it becomes you.

6. Shift in mindset from childbirth is painful to Childbirth is EASY, SHORT, RELAXED & COMFORTABLE.

Life is about seeing the glass as half empty or half full, and we all know it gets easier when we see the glass as half full even when the going gets tough.

Its the same concept here. So surround yourself with positive birth stories and videos and avoid all negativity relating to pregnancy, labor and birth.

It is IMPERATIVE to use the techniques mentioned:

- Linking childbirth to pleasure daily;

- Repeating and visualizing the Positive affirmations daily;

- Practice the breathing techniques to work with your body daily;

- Practice the relaxation techniques daily, and;

- Visualize, Visualize, Visualize – this is the language of your subconscious mind so work with it by speaking the same language!

7. Understanding what happens during labor and birth and knowing what to expect

Knowledge is power but applied knowledge is TRUE power! Read up as much as you can childbirth, find out your options and birth preferences, communicate and discuss that with your Ob-gyn/ midwife. To get the birth you want, 80% of the work is done prenatally, 20% is applying everything that you learned. To find out in greater depth about this, do look out for my next article.

Thats it, seven simple steps to help you to get an EASY, SHORT, RELAXED AND COMFORTABLE labor that will set you and your family off on an easy start to parenting, a positive experience that will remain with you for a lifetime and a gentle beginning for your baby!

How to Naturally Cure Infertility in You Or Your Spouse

Best time to get pregnant

The best time to get pregnant is definitely the time when both the partners are not just physically but also psychologically, spiritually and monetarily prepared to share their love and lives with another individual and they have prepared themselves for the responsibility that lies ahead. When all of these requirements are met and the timing is right, you’ve found the best time to get pregnant.

The best or most fertile time to get pregnant is the period of ovulation in your menstrual cycle. Period of ovulation is the time when, a mature ovum is released into the uterus from the follicles. This egg or ovum is ready to be fertilized and stays so for about 12 hours after which it starts degenerating. The best way to determine your most fertile time is to figure out the physical signs of ovulation, and thereby the best time to get pregnant

It is important to calculate your most fertile time by counting days- generally, ovulation occurs about 14 days before your next menstrual period begins. That means if your menstrual cycle is a 28-day one, and day 1 is the first day when your last period began then day14 as your most fertile day. Similarly in a 30-day cycle day 16 and in 32-day cycle day 18 will be the best days to get pregnant.

Another important indication is keeping track of your basal body temperature. It needs an inexpensive basal thermometer to be purchased.Your basal temperature will go up about one half degrees when you ovulate.

You can certain of the best time to get pregnant by purchasing an ovulation predictor kit. This accurately detects the increase in luteinizing hormone; the amount of LH hormone usually elevates in women 24-48 hours before ovulation.

Monitoring your cervical mucus also shows ovulation. As your cycle progresses, your cervical mucus increases in volume and changes texture indicating rising levels of estrogen. The best time to get pregnant is when the mucus becomes clear, slippery, and stretchy comparable to raw egg whites.

Mittelschmerz is felt by about one-fifth of women who actually feel ovulatory activity, ranging from mild aches to twinges of pain in the lower abdomen indicates the best time to get pregnant.

Now male counterpart also forms an integral part of this unmemorable venture of pregnancy. Studies have suggested that regular intercourse can substantially reduce the sperm count thus producing lesser number of sperms or sperms with less motility and vitality which will be wasted.on other hand longer abstinence can produce stale and low vitality sperms having lesser reproductive value. Research studies have shown that after 10 days of abstinence, sperm quality and quantity is greatly diminished. Sperm quality and quantity peaks, however, after one or two days of abstinence. So it is recommended by fertility experts that weekly twice coitus should be made to increase the chances of impregnating. Many experts believe that the egg can only live between 12 and 24 hours

(But many experts argue it is closer to 12-16 hours), and the sperm can survive from 2 to about 5 days in the woman’s body. So it is critical that the sperm are there “waiting” when the egg releases. After one has ovulated it is actually late to have intercourse as by the time the sperm will travel up the fallopian tube, the egg will be disintegrating.

So ideally, in order to get pregnant one needs to calculate the ovulation and then consider having coitus at least 2 to 5 days prior to ovulation.

There are many couples who after several approaches also have difficulties to get pregnant naturally and think that conventional methods like hormonal treatment are the most effective ways to get pregnant but there are many instances which prove it wrong. The holistic approach has not only no adverse side effects but also a higher rate of providing the desired results.

The holistic approach is a combination of different things that one should consider to get pregnant naturally. It includes healthy diet and lifestyle changes. For example omitting coffee, chocolate, cocoa, tea and any kinds of energy drinks from your diet plan as these are rich in caffeine. The holistic approach emphasizes on acupuncture and herbs and deals with practical things like the best time to get pregnant (during the ovulation), how to define your period of ovulation (for example the BBT-method), missionary and the right time for coitus (five days before ovulation and the day of ovulation).
