A broken heart. Many have been afflicted, but few actually understand any clear cut path to recovery. Such an approach or lack thereof often leads to endless amounts of pain and suffering. It has also been discovered that if left unchecked, a broken heart can actually prove to be more damaging than cigarette smoke, a high cholesterol diet, or even a marriage to Kevin Federline.
So ask yourself this…are you absolutely sure you know how to recover from a broken heart? If not, then I’d suggest you pay close attention to The 5 Steps To Healing A Broken Heart. This should prove to be more effective than the time I taught Bob Dole how to shake with his left hand.
#1-Remember That You Are Somebody!!!
Many times when suffering an emotional setback, it’s easy to lose sight of your self-worth. Doing so is probably an even bigger mistake than me buying O.J. that pair of gloves for Christmas. So don’t be so hard on yourself. Instead, continue to reinforce all of your positive qualities, and stop blaming yourself for what happened.
#2- Don’t Be Afraid To Let The Tears Flow.
In the words of Justin Timberlake, “Cry Me A River”…please…do it. There are moments when tears can actually express more than any word or phrase ever could. So use the tears as a way to release that negative energy, so you can continue to move forward on the road to recovery.
#3- Don’t Let Your Body Fall Apart
Television has incorrectly reinforced the idea that the perfect cure for heartbreak is to lay in bed and eat a truckload of food. This couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, you’d probably have a better chance at convincing Osama Bin Laden that the US “just wants to talk,” than to actually get your heart mended by using this method. A rejuvenated mind, body, and spirit is what you need…so get plenty of sleep and exercise while maintaining a balanced diet throughout this process.
#4- Resume Your Day-to-Day Activities
There’s no sense in moping around, feeling sorry for yourself. It’s time to dust yourself off, and return back to some semblance of a normal life. So whether it was going to the movies, or watching a Fraggle Rock marathon on Disney, revisit the activities that brought you joy. Now I’m not saying that you shouldn’t think about what happened at all…it’s just always nice to have something else to focus your attention on.
#5- Take time to get over it
Allow me to dispel a common misconception. Painful experiences don’t just disappear over night…unless of course we’re talking about Milli Vanilli’s career. So don’t be afraid to take some time to get over the pain. There’s no set timetable, as it could be days or months before you’re able to put it behind you. Just do what’s best for you…not the rest of the world.
