7 Simple Steps To Avoid Pain In Labor And Have An Easy, Short, Relaxed And Comfortable Birth

The first thing we think of when we think of childbirth is PAIN! If someone in the streets walks up to you right now saying “YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE AN EASY, SHORT, RELAXED AND COMFORTABLE LABOR”, what is your reaction going to be? You are probably thinking “Yeah right, You probably don’t know a thing about birthing!” But hey, take a minute to listen to that again in your head? How nice it would be if it were true? Can we truly really have an easy, short, relaxed and comfortable labor?

YES, now YOU can, in seven simple steps. Here is how:

1. Linking childbirth to pleasure

Human Beings are actually very simple creatures. All our actions are linked towards getting even more pleasure and doing as much as we can to avoid pain.

So the first thing we need to do is to link childbirth to pleasure instead of pain. You must be joking you say but do this now. Take your pen and paper and ask yourself these two questions:

(a) What will i GAIN if i have an easy labor and birth? (So list down ALL the BENEFITS you, your baby and your husband is going to derive from this NOW!

Yes, i mean right now, just let your pen flow and keep on writing for at least 5 minutes non-stop!)

(b) What will it COST me if i do not have an easy labor and birth? (list down all the pain you are you going to get by not getting this easy labor and birth!)

What you then do is to look at this list every day and add on to this list everyday. As you read this list, you don’t just read it, i want you to engage all the emotions in your body, charge it all up, and imagine all the benefits and pleasure you are going to get from having an easy, short, relaxed and comfortable labor.

2. Positive Affirmations

I want you to list down all your negative thoughts, fears and concerns about this pregnancy, labor, birth and parenting. After you have done that, i want you
to change all your negative thoughts, fears and concerns into something positive. Thats right, you heard me. Change it into something positive.

That was tough wasn’t it, but it gets easier the more the do it. Now as you go through the list of positive affirmations, i want you to ensure that you use
Active present tense or present tense, AS IF it is already happening to you right now.

For example:

Fear of pain during labor and birth

The positive affirmation can be:

“I am getting better at having an easy, short, relaxed and comfortable labor with the techniques that i am learning.” (active present tense)

“My labor and birth is EASY, SHORT, RELAXED AND COMFORTABLE!” (present tense)

Then what i want you to do is write these affirmations on post it notes and paste them around in the house and repeat the positive affirmation to yourself whenever you see the post it notes at least twice a day. If your brain talks back to you when you use present tense, then start with active present tense
until your brains gets the idea that you are INDEED going to have an easy, short, relaxed and comfortable labor and birth.

3. Breathing Techniques

“I forgot the breathing techniques i learned in class” is something common that we always hear. I am going to teach you effective birthing techniques that
works with your body, and women swear by it, so listen well.

Breathe in from your diaphragm to a slow count up to 8 or 10, and slowly breathe out. Practice this breathe 10 times a day EVERY DAY.

Its easy, you get this done in minutes. The key is practice and conditioning your body to this breathing technique so it becomes second nature to you during labor and birth, so do it now.

4. Relaxation Techniques

To have an easy, short, relaxed and comfortable labor means that we need to be as physically and mentally relaxed as possible. But how are we going to do that when we are supposed to be experiencing pain during labor and birth?

Like the breathing exercise, it is CRUCIAL and IMPERATIVE that you practice this DAILY!!! Need i emphasize more?

Here’s what you.

(a) Take a nice deep breathe and close your eyes.

(b) Focus on your breath – take slow and deep breaths.

(c) Now imagine that you are scanning your body. If there is any tension in your body, take a nice deep breath and release that tension you are holding on
to as you exhale. Do that until your body is completely relaxed

(d) Then anchor yourself to your breath by telling yourself mentally in your mind “every breath takes me deeper and deeper relaxed.”

Thats it, easy isn’t it. Do this at least once a day, its easy, do it right now.

5. Visualisation Techniques

“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.” – Napoleon Hill

We CAN work with our mind to have an EASY, SHORT, RELAXED & COMFORTABLE labor and birth by visualizing it happening to us, AS IF it is already happening, so engage all your emotions a couple of minutes a day visualizing the kind of labor and birth you would like to have and how long you would like to be in labor for. If you find this challenging, then watch positive birth videos of women having easy births and visualize that over and over and over again until it becomes you.

6. Shift in mindset from childbirth is painful to Childbirth is EASY, SHORT, RELAXED & COMFORTABLE.

Life is about seeing the glass as half empty or half full, and we all know it gets easier when we see the glass as half full even when the going gets tough.

Its the same concept here. So surround yourself with positive birth stories and videos and avoid all negativity relating to pregnancy, labor and birth.

It is IMPERATIVE to use the techniques mentioned:

- Linking childbirth to pleasure daily;

- Repeating and visualizing the Positive affirmations daily;

- Practice the breathing techniques to work with your body daily;

- Practice the relaxation techniques daily, and;

- Visualize, Visualize, Visualize – this is the language of your subconscious mind so work with it by speaking the same language!

7. Understanding what happens during labor and birth and knowing what to expect

Knowledge is power but applied knowledge is TRUE power! Read up as much as you can childbirth, find out your options and birth preferences, communicate and discuss that with your Ob-gyn/ midwife. To get the birth you want, 80% of the work is done prenatally, 20% is applying everything that you learned. To find out in greater depth about this, do look out for my next article.

Thats it, seven simple steps to help you to get an EASY, SHORT, RELAXED AND COMFORTABLE labor that will set you and your family off on an easy start to parenting, a positive experience that will remain with you for a lifetime and a gentle beginning for your baby!

When Will I Go Into Labor?

If you are pondering “when will I go into labor?” you are most probably very near to your estimated due date. Especially, if you have passed you EDD and are nearing you 40th pregnancy week, you might not only wonder “when will I go into labor” but be saying “I want to go into labor!”

What the Numbers of Dilation and Effacement Really Tell You?
?br>How far you are dilated and effaced will give an idea how near your labor would be. Additionally, hearing how well you are dilated and effaced gives you a sense of progress with your nearing labor. However, if you are NOT dilated, or effaced, rest assured that you will eventually give birth to your baby! Some pregnant women dilate to 4 cm and are 100% effaced for a full month before they go into labor. On the other hand some women, who were not dilated at all, can go into full labor and give birth within hours. Each body is build a little bit differently. Therefore our bodies work a little bit differently in pregnancy, labor and delivery, although the end result is the same – giving birth to a baby.
?br>There is no magic hour or day that coincides with dilation and effacement. Some pregnant women dilate quite silently without feeling contractions. Other expectant mothers have Braxton Hicks contractions for weeks before their labor starts. This is why vaginal checks are helpful in determining how much your cervix has dilated and how far you have effaced. However, the internal examination only gives you an idea of what is the situation on the moment of the examination. It won’t tell you exactly when you will be in labor.
?br>When You Should Go to the Delivery Hospital?
?br>It is quite a common belief that if you are dilated to a certain number, you will automatically be admitted to the hospital – even if they you not having contractions. There are some hospitals that won’t let you leave if you have dilated to at a certain number, on the other hand there are hospitals that will send home although you were dilated up to 5, 6 and even 7 cm but are you are not having contractions. Many hospitals feel quite comfortable sending a woman home who is not contracting at is 4 and even 5 cm dilated. The reason for this is that you can be dilated quite a bit, and still not go into labor very soon.
?br>And the Answer to Your Question “When Will I Go Into Labor?” Is …
?br>So if you are dilated, and want to know when you will go into labor, there is simply no guessing. If you are NOT dilated, there is no guessing. Neither clearly indicates going early, or going late. Most OB’s, midwives, nurses, doulas and childbirth educators love to help you out with your labor and delivery questions. The truth is that if someone could give a precise answer to your question “when will I go into labor?” they were very wealthy!

Help Your Baby Breastfeed Before It抯 Even Born

揑t hurt.? 揗y baby was too sleepy to nurse.?揑 didn抰 have enough milk.? All are comments new moms make every day when talking about first nursing their babies. And all are challenges that can often be avoided.

A growing body of research reveals profound connections between a woman抯 birth experience and her ability to get breastfeeding off to a good start. Well-known lactation consultant Linda Smith asserts that common obstetrical practices, including medical, technological, and surgical interventions, can create all kinds of problems, involving a baby抯 ability to breath, suck and swallow properly; the mother抯 comfort level, and the ability of a mother and baby to remain together immediately after the birth.

Unfortunately, childbirth and breastfeeding are typically treated as separate and unrelated events. But if you think of putting your baby to your breast as the fourth stage of labor (following dilation, pushing out the baby, and birthing the placenta) it can help you visualize this connection.

The bottom line is, the less intervention you have at birth, the less likely you are to have problems breastfeeding. Of course, your birth may not go as planned. But why make the beginning of your parenting journey extra challenging? After all, you wouldn抰 set out on a vacation driving with a flat tire? And if nursing goes well in the first few days, you抣l be more likely to stick with it. Given that Americans spend an extra 3.6 billion dollars a year to care for babies fed formula, it makes sense to do a little homework ahead of time.

Here are eight things you can do to help your baby ?and you ?get off to the best start possible.

1. Take a childbirth education class and consider looking outside of the hospital to find one. Chose an instructor certified by a national organization (such as Lamaze, Bradley, or International Childbirth Education Association), with the freedom to present accurate and complete information. You want to be empowered to be an active participants throughout your labor, not simply prepared for what to expect in the hospital setting. The more empowered you are during birth, the more empowered you抣l be to nurse.
2. Find out what your practitioner抯 rates are for labor inductions, epidurals, c-sections, and v-bacs (vaginal birth after cesarean) and compare the statistics between hospitals. Then chose the provider and hospital with the lowest rates. Rates for all these procedures have dramatically increased in recent years without a corresponding increase or improvement in birth weight and birth outcomes.
Does this affect breastfeeding? You bet. Epidurals, for example, can make labor less productive, setting into place a cascade of interventions, often culminating in a c-section. As of 2005 the national c-section rate was at an unprecedented high with almost 1 in 3 women giving birth surgically. Studies suggest that women who give birth via c-section are less likely to room-in with their babies and are less likely to be breastfeeding several weeks later. And the less likely you are to be in pain after the birth, the more difficult it will be to focus on the needs of your baby.
3. Ask your provider how they can help you labor comfortably without using drugs. Find out if you can labor (and even birth) in a tub, if you can eat and drink for energy, and what kind of support you will have. Ask to have sporadic instead of continuous fetal monitoring. You will be more able to labor comfortably if you have the freedom to move around and it抯 impossible to do so when you are strapped to a machine. Remember that in most cases, the more gently you are treated, the more gently your baby is treated.

4. Locate a childbirth doula (pronounced DOO-la). Doulas offer emotional and physical support to women and provide various combinations of support before, during and after the birth. Studies show that having a doula at your birth shortens labor, cuts in half the odds of having an unnecessary c-section, and helps women feel more satisfied about their birth. Contact DONA, Doulas of North American at http://www.dona.org. Two other organizations that train doulas are: CAPPA – Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (www.cappa.net) and ALACE ?Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Educators (www.alace.org).

5. Find out what your hospital抯 post-partum policies are. Immediate skin-to-skin contact and being able to have your baby 搑oom-in?with you increases breastfeeding抯 success. Drying the baby, assigning Apgar scores, and doing the initial assessment typically should be done while your baby is with you. You can also delay having your baby cleaned, weighed, measured and bathed until after he or she has had a chance to nurse.
6. Request, in writing, that your baby be given no supplemental bottles of formula or glucose. Supplemental feedings of formula in the hospital have almost doubled in the past ten years, a practice known to derail nursing.
7. Attend a La Leche League meeting before giving birth, especially if you抳e never been around nursing mothers. Visit http://www.lalecheleague.org or call 847-519-7730.

8. Overall, know your rights as a patient. You have the right to participate in decision-making involving you and your baby and you have the right to know the benefits, risks and hazards of drugs and procedures. Remember: as the authors of 揂 Good Birth, A Safe Birth observe, 揑f you don抰 know your options, you don抰 have any.?/p>

In the end, remember that birth itself is not the end of your journey as a mother. It is a beginning. If you find yourself with an unplanned C-section, a difficult recovery, or nursing challenges of one type or another, help is available. Express your concerns to your doctors, midwife, nurse, or doula. A good lactation consultant can offer especially invaluable help, (look for the credential of IBCLC ?International board certified lactation consultant). In fact, you may want to find one ahead of time. Make that the ninth thing you can do before the birth!

Natural Childbirth – Why is Pelvic Anatomy So Important?

Your pelvis holds your uterus in place with long stretchy tendons it is a support for your uterus and your baby. Your pelvic floor muscles are attached to it and it loosens with pregnancy to allow your baby to pass through and a magnificent Natural Childbirth will be the outcome. What an amazing part of your anatomy!

So why am I discussing this? Well if you understand your pelvis you can enhance its abilities during labour and achieve a wonderful Natural Childbirth.

A hormone called relaxin is released during pregnancy, this affects your joints, blood vessels, pelvis and many others systems. In regards to your pelvis, it loosens allowing your uterus and your baby to fit comfortably and make a wide enough path for your birth.

So what can you do to create an easier Natural Childbirth for yourself and your baby? It is all about positioning your body to create more room. If you look at the diagram below you will see that it has a circular opening. All women have a different shaped pelvic opening; however, all women can increase the size of this opening to allow their baby to smoothly fit through.

Your sacrum is really the key, this is the end of your spine, it curves under and is able to move and create a larger opening for your baby. The best position to maximise the diameter of the pelvic outlet is leaning over. For example if you are standing you could lean over and rest your head on your arms over a bed, bench or chair. It just has to be an object that is higher than your pelvis. This will allow your sacrum to flare out and widen your pelvic outlet, giving way for an amazing Natural Childbirth.

You can use this position while you are in labour and move your hips around in a circular motion to relieve discomfort. Also, your lower back can be massaged easily to help you relax.

If you can increase the size of your pelvic outlet by leaning over and allowing your sacrum to flare out then conversely, if you lay on your back you will stop this from happening. In fact, you will reduce your pelvic outlet by 28%! As well as this, if you lie on your back, you will not have the use of gravity to help with the downward motion of a Natural Childbirth. By standing or kneeling while leaning over you will allow gravity to help guide your baby out.

Lets face it….any way we can work with our bodies to have a fast, amazing Natural Childbirth is something that is worth practicing and using during your birth. So, to recap, the best position to labour and birth in is:

?Upright position< - to use gravity to help you
?Leaning over allowing your sacrum to flare out
?Kneeling whilst leaning over, keeping your upper body above your pelvis

Using positions, gravity and your body during pregnancy and birth will greatly enhance your birthing experience and empower you to birth with confidence. To read and learn so much more amazing information on how you can enhance your body’s own natural birthing ability you can visit my website Child Birth Options. This will give you the skills, tools and an exciting array of choices for you to create a Natural Childbirth journey that will transform your life.

The forum becomes an online bridge to pass on knowledge and ideas, as well as build friendships across countries.

(7) Some web sites act as online birth clubs. Women at the same stage of pregnancy or conception planning as others can come together to talk via the Internet.

(8) An innovative mother can use any of these web sites to relate her own birth story and share her personal experience with others. She can even create and post her own childbirth video for others to view.

Advantages of Using Midwives

Childbirth is an exciting time – but it is also one that causes women to become nervous. There are certain things that might go wrong and when this happens we want to make sure that we have the most experienced with us at the time. Women are finding it easier and at times safer to use a midwife rather then a doctor during childbirth.

Midwifery is a type of health care profession in which the person will provide the necessary prenatal care to the mother and help during childbirth and postpartum to care for both the child and the mother. In the United States these women are more commonly referred to as nurse practitioners.

One of the biggest reasons that women choose to use a them in place of doctors is because they allow the mother to make important decisions and to give them a sense of control. Most of them give the woman the choice to have her baby at home instead of at the hospital so that the whole family can participate. They are known for providing the mom important information to help make the right decisions.

They use a more modern method of medical knowledge combined with the traditional technique to make sure that nothing goes wrong during this time. Most doctors are impersonal to their patients making the mother feel out of place and uncomfortable at times. But midwives are trained to be more personal.

The only women who should not be using a midwife are those with high risk pregnancies. They have been trained to handle low risk pregnancies with no potential risks involved. This is especially true when the birth is occurring at the house. When at this house there are no tools to help.

Role of Partner in HypnoBirthing

I met Carrie (name changed) in a spiritual bookstore at a friend’s gathering for pregnant moms. Carrie had a shy smiling demeanor and was on her 29th week of pregnancy. Carrie was very happy about her pregnancy, except …she did not have a husband. She made a decision to go on having a baby all by herself, she knew she wanted a baby. She was struggling to make piece with the fact that she has no partner to bring to her HypnoBirthing class.

HypnoBirthing

HypnoBirthing classes are structured to involve a partner. And there is a great valid reason for doing that. First let’s look at a concept of hypnosis.

Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention to the exclusion of anything else. In hypnosis, a person finds comfort in various stages of physical and mental relaxation following positive suggestions given by her guide. If she listens to a hypnotic recording, she is following a voice of her hypnotic guide on the recording. However, a hypnotic guide isn’t just any person. It must be a person with whom she has deep rapport, agreement, trust. Such a person is traditionally her husband.

Many modern husbands realized that birth is a natural and normal event in their new family life and is not a medical event. So if there is no emergency, they tend to want to participate and are interested in assisting their wives in the birth of their child. They feel that there is something else they can do, other than just help conceive. Hence, we invite a husband to be present in a HypnoBirthing class to get familiar with the techniques she is learning, in order to better assist her in her birthing.

If it is not a husband, father of the child, who is going to be a birthing partner, for the sake of this article, I am going to refer to the partner as father. This will invite non-traditional relationships to become open to the concept of partner in HypnoBirthing as well.

HypnoBirthing Techniques

HypnoBirthing Techniques are simple and easy. Just like with any techniques, the key to success is practice. In order for a HypnoBirthing mother to have a successful HypnoBirthing birth, provided all other areas check out as healthy, first of all, she needs to be open to the opportunity that it is possible. And then practice. At home, in class, instilling the habit of using hypnosis for creating her future, creating relaxation, creating unchallenged and peaceful birth. She also needs someone to guide her on that path of learning and practicing. Here is where her partner comes in handy.

Role of Partner

Her hypnotherapist is not usually available to be with her at birth. She can take a cd with a hypnotherapist voice guiding her with positive suggestions and affirmations for birth. Sometimes, listening to a cd becomes irrelevant during birth. So unless her doula is a HypnoBirthing practitioner as well, and can serve as a hypnotic guide, or she does not have a doula, the mom needs her partner to whisper the hypnotic instructions to her during the birth.

This is a function of mother’s birthing companion.

Birth with HypnoBirthing

Celia (name changed) wanted a natural and unassisted birth. She insisted that she is healthy and her body can do the work. She practiced with her partner at home and in class. She started her HypnoBirhting classes in her 20th week of pregnancy. She diligently did all that homework. This includes the reading of the textbook, the listening to the 2 cds, the writing down of her birth plan, some physical exercises, practice of positions, in addition to hypnosis practice, all required by the curriculum. This helps each of them install new skill and behaviors to facilitate the birth experience.

When she went into labor her husband was constantly with her using hypnotic techniques and positive language to help her relax, open and bear down. From time to time her husband instructed her to follow the sound of his voice and gave her hypnotic instructions. Those are the instructions he learned in class. She gave into that familiar and lovely guidance she had gotten accustomed to following.

She had a quick labor. With HypnoBirthing, her husband was giving her hypnotic instructions, but she was not a zombie, not laying helplessly, not needing to cope with pain, which she had none, not motionless. Instead, she was active in her labor. Even though in a birthing trance, she was able to communicate clearly and easily with her partner all her desires to change positions, walk, or take a bath. All natural behavior of a woman in the final stages of pregnancy.

She had her baby girl in 6 hours. Her surges were soft and smooth as if mild cramps. She was happy that she could do it – achieve the type of birth that she wanted, without outside help and solely with her husband. Together they created their own beautiful loving HypnoBirthing birth.

What were those instructions he was giving her?

Hypnosis Techniques for Partner

Hypnosis techniques for partner are simple. Start by connecting with your heart, and find the place where love resides. Then let that love come through the sound of your voice. Direct that love to softly flow toward your wife and your baby, connect with them. Add strength to your voice showing the willingness and readiness to take the responsibility and make it a safe and comfortable experience for mother and baby. Then add the instructions for desired effect, be it relaxation, calmness, breathing, etc.

Importance of Practice

At first father is very unsure of himself in this role. When asked to read the material to the mom, in class, his voice trembles and he seems very tentative, even though the text is simple and clear. I once asked a dad why he is so unsure. He said that all of it is so unknown that he wishes he had that text at home to practice and prepare. To which of course, guess what I said, You got it! From now on and until the birthing time, you are the hypnotist for your wife. Learn the techniques and practice. Because of all voices on earth, if it isn’t mom’s voice the baby wants to hear, it’s dad’s!

How to Practice

Practice in class is a supervised practice in a couples format. At home couples practice both separately and together. Mom practices her own skills and dad practices his, and they practice together as well. More often than not, moms are more diligent in practicing, listening to cds, reading, researching, rehearsing and practicing hypnosis for self. Dads feel that providing for the family is more important and often forget to practice. Then comes labor time his voice is needed there. The HypnoBirthing curriculum requires practicing together is the environment of love and mutual bonding. At home, read scripts to each other, rehearse the voice and modulation, memorizing the language of the scripts and learning to let go and let the imagine soar high. At first practice in the quiet safe comfort of your home, at your own pace and at your own time (but make time to practice!) According to Mickey Mongan the author of the HypnoBirthing method, it is also useful to practice peaceful behaviors and deep hypnosis in a crowded place with loud noises, where the mother can acquire the skills of quick and deep disconnect from the environment in simulation of when it is not conducive to peaceful progress of her labor (like bustling hospital.)

Testimonial from a Mother

Last week I heard from a HypnoBirthing student-mother making last minute preparations for her labor. A week earlier at her last sonogram one of her twins was in a wrong position threatening to create a necessity for a cesarian delivery. She called her HypnoBirthing professional for help to make her baby turn. In twelve hours after her hypnotic session the baby turned into the correct position. Now both of her babies were head down and ready for birth. She was excited and wrote: “This couldn’t have been done without the power of mind. I believe.” She was given a script for her partner to practice in preparation for her birthing.

Conclusion

Within the framework of the process of HypnoBirthing the partner plays a crucial pivotal role. Partner plays the role of the hypnotist as in a classic hypnotist-client relationship. It is the partner’s responsibility to occupy the conscious mind of the mother and direct and lead her so that her body can easily deliver the baby. Fearlessly and confidently the HypnoBirthing partner uses the techniques of HypnoBirthing to create a safe and comfortable experience for the birthing mother.

Carie, who did not have a partner, had practiced with her best girl friend.

Natural Childbirth At Home

Not everybody wants to have their baby born in a hospital, for many women there is something special about having a natural childbirth at home. However some of these women, cannot have a natural childbirth because of complications.

Other people can give you advice, but that抯 all they can do. You are the only person, who knows what is best for you and your new born baby. Natural childbirth is normally safe for both the mother and the baby, however in some circumstances giving birth naturally could be dangerous.

So why would you want natural childbirth ?

  • More confidence that everything will be ok.
  • It抯 healthy.
  • You can still have medications if required.

It抯 common for women who want to give birth naturally to be more confident, that they can deliver the baby. They normally have lots of support, and have spoken to many other women, who have gone through the same situation. Before considering natural childbirth you must find out more about it, and try to build your confidence. Why not attend a natural childbirth class, you can take your partner with you, so both mother and father have the best preparation for the natural childbirth.

If you are healthy, then you should not have much trouble giving birth naturally, make sure that you eat a healthy balanced diet and exercise regularly. Keeping your body healthy avoids many of the complications. Make sure that you understand your health, because this can affect the delivery options, and you should defiantly discuss this with your doctor.

Even if you continually say that you don抰 want medication, and then discover that you actually want it, when you抮e giving birth it抯 no problem. Nobody is going to tease you! It in no way restricts the conventional medicine options, that you have available. You must learn about natural child birth before attempting it, and then you can decide, whether you want a natural childbirth or a conventional childbirth.

If you抮e looking for information about given birth naturally at home, then why not try asking people, that have already gone through the process? You must be very careful when asking for advice, because every pregnancy is different, and you should ask a wide range of people, so you can work out whether given birth naturally is for you or not.

Ask what the women liked about natural childbirth, and find out if they would do anything differently next time. Also ask why they decided to have a birth naturally, and did they succeed? Or did they need medication?

Ask yourself why you want to give birth to your baby naturally, what exactly is it that you like? Is there another way to get the same result? Is it because you want to feel comfortable at home, or health, or just the confidence? Also discuss the issue and receive information about natural childbirth from your doctor.

I am not saying that giving birth naturally at home is right or wrong for you, it is a very personal decision and it completely depends on the person. You just need to find out, if there are other ways to reach your goal, perhaps these would be better suited to you. The best way that you can make the right decision for you is that you know as much as possible about the subject, so look for all the information you can find about natural childbirth. Remember knowledge is the key to make you feel more safe about your decision.

Think carefully about these topics and you should be able to decide which labor option you use, and if you think giving birth naturally is something for you, then start to prepare for the natural childbirth at home as early as possible. The right and careful preparation is very important.

The Last Trimester – What To Expect From A Father To-Be

While the whole journey that is pregnancy has no doubt been a whirlwind of change and learning, this last stage of pregnancy is the most anticipatory; baby will be making its debut in a matter of weeks.

While dad may think that things can only get worse in the way of stress and exhaustion, many soon to be parents often find the last trimester the best. Life seems to strike a balance and while mom may be uncomfortable because of the size of her tummy, mentally the couple is often in a very good place.

Because mom’s hormones have began to stabilize, mood swings are less likely at this stage of the pregnancy, however, they’re probably not over. Mom can often get irritable and cranky because of the sheer discomfort of carrying around a 20lb plus weight gain. The baby is big enough now that she can feel his every movement, and oftentimes he’ll manage to rest himself against the spine, which can be pretty uncomfortable and cause lower back pain. This stage of pregnancy can also be very difficult for mom to find a good position to get much needed rest. For these reasons, mom’s mood swings should not be taken personally.

By now dad is also used to the late night cravings and constant bathroom breaks. It’s important to understand that at this stage the baby is both large, and moving towards the birth canal, which means he is almost always situated on mommy’s bladder. While it may be frustrating to make frequent restroom stops, think of the discomfort mom feels about always having the urge to use the restroom! The best thing a soon-to-be father can do is to patient. While mommy may not realize it at the moment, she will look back and realize how thankful she was to have an understanding partner.

Another thing that dad may notice is mom’s nesting. While it may be difficult or near impossible for her to clean, she may use what little energy she has to prepare the home for baby. It’s essential for dad to recognize that not only is baby sapping a lot of energy, but struggling with the added weight can be tiring; frequent naps may become part of the routine.

It’s important to be understanding in these last months of pregnancy and be willing to help with the chores around the house to take the burden off of mom. With a little understanding and patience, this last stage of pregnancy preparing for baby can be a joyous one!

Breastfeeding Today

One of the most nurturing, natural and healthy things you can do for your new born child is breastfeed them when they are young.

The first time you breastfeed, you may have no idea how to do it the best way. This can make you feel frustrated, especially if you are a new mom, as well. However, when you are given instructions the frustration can quickly change to a rewarding experience for both you and your baby.

Using a Breast Pump

If you prefer not to breastfeed in public or if you are a new mom that works, you might want to consider buying a breast pump. Numerous brands and styles are available in most pharmacies and several are portable, easy to carry in your hand bag.

In addition, breast milk stores well for a couple of days in sealed containers, in the refrigerator. Your baby will stay healthy and well fed, even though you are not around to breastfeed.

Understanding What Your Baby Needs

First and important things you will want to understand when you are planning to breastfeed are; when to start, how frequently do you do it, and for how long. Since your baby, like all babies, is unique, how long you want to breastfeed is something you will have to figure out. Many physicians suggest one year, though your child may choose to stop before that.

Using Formula

Formula is a perfectly fine and acceptable choice, particularly if you are not able to breastfeed. The key is to feed and nourish your baby in whatever way you can. Today, with our modern knowledge of nutrition, a lot of formulas have similar nutrients that breast milk has.

Even experienced mothers with several children may be able to share the differences that they say in their own infants in dealing with sickness and getting any allergies.

Breastfeeding can build an important closeness with mother and child, that help both of them adjust to their new lifestyle. Babies will experience again, the warmth and secure feeling of being physically near the body that they were joined with day for 9 months. New mothers, especially need time to adjust to the responsibilities and physical demands placed on them.

Many times, breastfeeding can stimulate each of the five senses more and help to build their memory. Over and over, each time the new born is fed, they can see their mom, smell her, touch her, taste the milk from her, and hear her as she takes a breath or possibly even pick up her heart beat by being next to her ribcage.

Breastfeeding is an important part of bonding with your baby, giving your baby the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and more.
