Good Nutrition During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a very wonderful moment for a woman. A pregnant woman needs more nutritious food, because not only for her own needs, she also has to give enough nutrition for her fetus.

There is a physiological change during pregnancy. An example that we can easily see is weight gaining. During pregnancy it is normal if your weight rise 7 to 14 kilograms. This change comes from the growth of the fetus, placenta, and amniotic fluid, the enlargement of uterus and breast, and also fat deposition in the maternal body. Metabolism also rises during pregnancy. Compares to others, a pregnant woman is easier to sweat and to feel hungry.

Mother’s needs of nutrition during pregnancy

A pregnant woman needs more energy to fulfill the increase of metabolism. The energy is also needed to build new tissues of her body and the growth of the baby. The need of energy is about 2500 Cal per day. Energy resources can be derived from fat, carbohydrates, and protein which can be found in rice, oat, potato, maze, oil, wheat, bean, meat, etc. Protein is also important to form new tissues and organs of the fetus. Lack of protein may cause small newborn baby. Foods contain high protein for examples are meat, chicken, fish, milk, cheese, tofu, and bean.

Besides those macronutrients mentioned above, a pregnant woman also needs micronutrients. Some important minerals include calcium, phosphor, iron, and zinc. Calcium and phosphor are important to form bones and teeth. Lack of calcium intake during pregnancy may cause decrease of calcium deposit in mother’s body that may cause decrease of the mother’s health. High calcium foods for examples are milk, milk products, green vegetable, and many kinds of beans. Phosphor can be found in oat, grains, and beans. Zinc also contributes to help the growth of fetus’ bone. This mineral can be found in egg, mushroom, red meat, shrimp, fish, and soy bean.

There is an increase of blood volume in a pregnant mother. Thus, there is also an increase of iron demand. In pregnancy hemoglobin normal level is above 10 mg/dL. It is usually difficult to fulfill iron sufficiency from food during pregnancy, so it is suggested that a mother should take supplement.

Vitamins are also important factors in healthy pregnancy. Vitamin C works as antioxidant and helps enzyme to work properly. It also helps in forming collagen tissue and healing wound, improves immunity, and helps body absorbing iron.

Prepare Yourself For The Powerpuff Girls Party

It’s party time, and the best way to make things easier on yourself is to decide on a theme such as a Powerpuff Girls party. If your daughter is a fan, a Powerpuff Girls Party is sure to be a success! Here are some easy hints and tips to make your party go off without a hitch!

Since the professor created the Powerpuff girls from sugar and spice and everything nice, it would be the perfect setting to allow guests are your Powerpuff Girls Party to create their own powerpuff girls out of premade cookie dough. Each girl could be given her own bit of dough (be sure to bake some yourself梡erhaps even have them made ahead of time, just in case of a mishap such as a broken cookie) then, after the cookies are baked and cooled, each girl could choose their favorite Powerpuff girl and be given a picture to use to decorate their cookie to match! A good alternative if your girls are not old enough to decorate with that much detail, would be to have powerpuff girl cookies decorated according to character, but allow them to make one of their own and frost it in the color that coordinates with the character they like best.

Sleepover Powerpuff Girls Parties work very well as sleepovers. Just be sure to include any necessities such as sleeping bags or pillows in the invitations. You can even set up a tent in your back yard or living room to make it special. If you are planning a back yard tent slumber party, remember to have a back up plan in case of weather problems or scared campers, and consider including a flashlight with fresh batteries in loot bags for every guest. Another thing to remember with Sleepovers is to specify exact pick up and drop off times to ensure there are no mix ups later.

You can create a fun school party for the kids any time of the year. It’s a great break from the monotony of lessons and can add a little spontaneity to the school atmosphere for the kids.

The treats for a school party should be simple and portable. In addition there aren’t a lot of cooking facilities on campus so; you’ll probably want foods that don’t need to be heated. Kids always love sugary treats. So you can fall back on the classics like cookies, muffins and cupcakes for the school party. You can also take the time to provide something a little bit healthier like a platter of celery and peanut butter. Whole gherkin pickles can be fun for the kids to chew on at the party too. Soft pretzels with cheese dip are another yummy treat. You can warm up the cheese dip if you happen to have a microwave in the teachers lounge or cafeteria. Cheese crackers and chunks of cheese are also tasty.

Soft Pretzels

For this School party you’ll need the following items: 1 packet (2-1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast, 1 Tablespoon honey or sugar, 1-1/2 cups warm (105 to 115 degrees F.) water, 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 cups whole wheat flour, ,2 to 2-1/2 cups white bread flour (or unbleached flour), 1 egg, beaten with 1 teaspoon water and coarse salt or seeds

Creating Dinner Without a Plan

Planning dinner every night would be ideal. In reality, life just doesn’t work that way, at least not in our house.
Tonight my husband asked “What’ for dinner?” My response? Uh, what do you want. As usual he had no opinion so I was left to think of what was in the back of the freezer that I could pull together. Of course, we could have eaten out, but we are really conscious of those decisions #1 for the chemicals it the food and #2 the economy right now takes the buzz out of restaurants.

So here are the results of the dinner scavenger hunt:

  • Organic chicken wings, frozen, cooked in skillet with all natural HOT sauce.
  • Organic pulled roast with bbq sauce, in the freezer from a few weeks ago
  • Buns
  • A pretty, almost rainbow, salad including pine nuts and a variety of organic dressings

I served it all up with pretty plates and wine glasses filled with water and a splash of organic juice for color. The family was happy and tummy’s were full. They were impressed with the presentation & taste. I was impressed at the full meal in under 20 minutes simply from what was hiding in our house.

Total Cost Organic Meal for a family of four: $15-$17, including all the trimmings.

Ever worry about the family not getting what they need in a meal? Pull together some fruits and veggies and supplement with a toxin/chemical free meal shake that will feel just like dessert! Most importantly remember that dinner is not a chore, but a an excuse to get the family together and fill yourselves with both the nutrition and the connections that we all need to make it through the day.

Thanksgiving, A Feast of Friendship

At one time there was an era of friendship between the Pilgrim fathers and their Indian neighbors. As far back as March 16, 1621, approximately three months after the Mayflower landed on the shores of Plymouth, Massachusetts an era began. An Indian named Samoset called out and welcomed Englishmen to their land. In the territory of Massasoit the Pilgrims settled in the Wampanoag Confederacy. The Indians and the Pilgrims sat down with a bilingual Patuxet named Squanto who acted as an interpreter. A treaty was reached and peace lasted 40 years. Squanto was an advisor for the Pilgrims. He would guide them on trading expeditions, and would teach them to forage for food and medicines. He showed them how to fish in nearby streams, plant corn and to fertilize the ground with freshly caught fish.

As Autumn came there came a celebration for the bounty that God provided. The Pilgrims prepared a traditional English harvest festival. They invited Massasoit who came with 90 hungry men and five newly killed deer. For three days in October, the Indians and Pilgrims would join together and enjoy their celebration. They ate venison, roast duck, roast goose, wild turkey, corn bread, pumpkin, squash, berries, maple sugar, and wild plums. At this time it seemed that the harmony between the Native people and the new settlers would last forever.

The tradition we know as Thanksgiving began simply as native Americans welcoming newcomers to a new land and extending their friendship and food.

God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving!

Memorial Day Party – Remembering Those That We Have Lost

Originally known as Decoration Day, Memorial Day was set aside each day to honor American Civil War soldiers who had lost their lives in battle, by decorating their graves. The holiday is celebrated the last Monday each May all over the nation, with Memorial Day parties of various types.

In the year 1966, Waterloo, New York was named the official birthplace of Memorial Day, and in current times, the official Memorial Day Celebration is held at Arlington National Cemetery, where the acting Vice President of The United States places a memorial wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldier. Though many people still include grave decoration in their Memorial Day Celebrations, many people celebrate in a variety of other ways as well, and various types of Memorial Day Parties are held all over the country.

When families gather together to celebrate what is, for many the first real holiday of the season, this year will be, for most Americans, especially poignant. Consider incorporating flower arrangement into at least a small part of the cooking out and spending time in the fun and sun, to honor the soldiers throughout time who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and taking them to local cemeteries to place upon the graves.

In the mean time, even if you don’t have a grill or a pool, you can still enjoy the health benefits of grilling and the wonderful flavors we all enjoy, by taking large clay or terracotta flower pots, filling them approximately half full of sand, placing a layer of hot coals on top, and laying skewered kabobs of meats, veggies, or fruits that have been seasoned and marinated over the pots until the food it done, and enjoy the taste of outdoors at your Memorial Day Party!

Tambourines- Mr. Tambourine Man, Play!

If you are planning a Wiggles, Disco, or any musical theme party, add tambourines to get everyone involved! No matter the age, nobody can resist dancing and shaking a tambourine to the music as they party the night away!

If you are planning a Musical theme party, whether it is a 50’s bash or a Rock N Roll Remix, adding tambourines is a lot of fun. You can even incorporate a craft into the mix by making your own tambourine. Before the party begins, use a hole punch to make holes along the outer rim of plastic lids from margarine containers or other throw away containers. Use other small lids, bottle tops, or even jangly beads and shells you can obtain from craft departments.

It is important that you make all the holes ahead of time, and there are no jagged edges, if you use metal bottle tops, but your party crowd can easily use bread ties or string to tie on the jinglies to the lid, and shake, shake, shake their tambourine, while they rock the day away to the rhythm of the tunes!

Whether you are planning a 60’s Rock Revival, an 80’s blast from the past, or just plan a march around the room singing along with Big Bird and Ernie, you are sure to enjoy creating, borrowing, or renting tambourines to let the whole crew join in. You can even find toy tambourines at dollar shops or in the party favor section wherever you shop. The main key is to get everyone involved and shaking a tambourine is an easy way to accomplish that task.

Wholesome Nutrition for Pregnant Women

Wholesome nutrition of pregnant women is one of the most important problems of modern midwifery. Recommendations concerning this question were worked out long ago, however, minimum quantity of women receive them in full measure.

So, information of this article will help you to give birth to a healthy baby.

First of all, nutrition should be correct. This means proteins, fats and carbohydrates should be included in your daily ration in a certain proportion. Of course, proteins take the first place, as they are a building material for a baby抯 organism.
So, you need to eat not less than 200 g of meat every day. Twice a week it抯 recommended to replace meat by fish of skim sorts.

Eggs and cultured milk products are also providers of proteins for organism. Every day you need to eat one egg, to prevent salmonellosis ?one of the most popular intestinal infections ?it抯 necessary to boil it no less than 6 minutes. For the same reason doctors-infectiologists recommend not to eat fried eggs. It抯 also necessary to eat 100 g of cotton cheese, 50 g of cheese and drink at least 0,5 liter of kefir every day.

Eating of vegetables and fruits provides coming in of carbohydrates, vitamins and, what is very important, microelements in organism. Eat 600 g of raw vegetables and 300-400 g of raw fruits daily. If for some reasons you cannot buy fresh fruits, you can replace them by dried fruits (raisins, fig, prunes, dried apricots).

Every day you need to provide coming in of poly-unsaturated, fatty acids, so called vitamin F in your organism. For this you need to drink a table-spoon of vegetable oil (it should be unrefined for sure).

Polyvitamins are also necessary, as a pregnant woman抯 organism needs increased quantity of them, and eating only of fruits and vegetables cannot completely satisfy this need. If you found out your pregnancy on early terms (2-3 week), then you should certainly take polyvitamins, containing selenium. Modern researches proved that it抯 necessary for normal laying of a nervous tube, which takes place right on this term of pregnancy. On late terms (3-4 weeks before childbirth) it抯 recommended not to make excessive use of sweets, eat grapes and water-melons (which contain a lot of glucose), as, otherwise, a fetus may become very large and this will complicate the process of delivery.

If you抮e going to nurse your baby, then about 2 months before delivery you should begin eating walnuts and black ashberry. Keep on eating these products during nursing too, as they stimulate lactation very well. Weight increase should be smooth. If you noticed that you gained weight in a short period suddenly, then, most likely, these are mistakes of your diet. But to exclude other possible reasons, you should consult your gynecologist.

Daily calorie content should be 3000-3200 kilocalories. If you suffer from early toxicosis, you feel sick, and cannot look at your favorite food without shudder, then you should try a method, which literally saved hundreds of thousands of women, who were in the same state, like you. This advice is quite simple: eat crackers. Of course, this is not ideal food for pregnant woman, but still it抯 better than nothing.

Water regimen is very important. You must provide regular coming in of liquid to your organism, i.e. drink although several gulps with an interval of 1,5-2 hours. It抯 better to drink tea, fruit and berry juices, usual water. Of course, you should exclude alcohol completely (including beer).

Now some words about medicines. You should remember that any medicine, from banal Analgin to antibiotics, is foreign and toxic for organism, especially growing one. So, do not take any medicines without absolute necessity. But is such necessity suddenly occurs, you should consult your gynecologist and read annotation carefully.

Planning The Best Blues Clues Party For Your Child

To plan for a Blues Clues Party, start out by finding some pre made cards of the Blues Clues characters. These should be readily available with most online party suppliers. Take this farther with the Blues Clues Party and have all of your guests dress in blue or their favorite Blues Clues clothing. See if your local grocery store sells jellybeans in just one color, blue of course! These can be a great favor for the children to munch on while the party is going on.

Decorating for the Blues Clues Party will be easy, with balloons in all shades of blue. Remember, Blue has friends too, so Green Puppy and Magenta can make an appearance, too! You might even be able to find some actual characters in balloons. For a party inside, place some large paw prints leading up the side walk and up into the house.
