3 Great Super Bowl Party Ideas

Its Super Bowl time again, invite over some friends and have yourself a party. Since most of the Super Bowl involves sitting and staring at the television screen you can get active for part of the day at your pre-game party. Invite guests over early to play a little game of touch football. This can also be a good game for the kids to play, especially if their complaining about their television time being taken up by football. It will get your guests active for the period of time before the game comes on and will get them into a competitive mood to watch the Super Bowl.

Create your own pre-game show to entertain the guests. You can act out a series of the most popular Super Bowl commercials. People will have fun trying to guess which commercial your skits are from. If you want you can make up your very own Super Bowl commercial. Try setting up the Karaoke machine at half time and have guests to take turns getting up to sing a few bars.

Place your snacks near guests during the game so that you don’t have a lot of people getting up and interrupted the game to go gets snacks in the kitchen. Naturally the party will involve beer and other drinks so you may wish to get out the cooler, fill it with ice and set it in the living room. Guests will be able to reach in and grab a drink without bothering anyone. Since there will be alcohol present you should start brewing some coffee towards the end of the game to help guests be more alert on the drive home. You may wish to make the guest room available for the occasional party goers that lives out of town or imbibed a little too much. Have a good party!

Tinkerbell Party Games for the Kids

The Tinkerbell Party will be a delight for the kids but make sure you have a couple of games waiting in the wings so to speak to help keep the kids interested in the party and hopefully use up any excess energy from the excitement of party atmosphere.

The first tinkerbell party game we suggest is called, 慍ats and Fairies.? You抣l need at least five players for the game, but can have as many as fifty or more. Choose one person to be the Cat and everyone else will be fairies. This is a tag game so you抣l need lots of room to run-say outside? Have the fairies stand on one side of the party area and the cat on the other side. You should put down a chalk line or some tape on opposite sides of the area so the fairies will be able to tell when they抳e reached safety.

When you yell, 憆un?all the fairies have to try and run to safety on the opposite side of the area. The cat will run from this safe area towards the tinkerbell fairies and try to grab one. Then after a moment you抣l yell 憆un?again and the fairies will try and make it back to safety on the other side of the area.

By the way this is a magic cat and any fairies he/she catches is turned into a fairy trap. So caught fairies get to stay in the game as traps and must try to grab passing fairies and hold them so the cat can come catch them. If a tinkerbell fairy is able to get out of the trap before the cat comes he/she can continue to run for safety.

The second game is called 慒airy Harvest? The tinkerbell party fairies are harvesting fruits in the form of ping pong balls, but they are too small to carry the fruits so they need the wind to help blow their harvest into collection baskets. You抣l need ping pong balls, a long table and a couple of baskets. The point of the game is to blow the ping pong balls from one side of the table to the other with your breathe and into the waiting baskets on the ground or attached to the underside of the opposite end of the table.

Those who get the most ping pong balls into their baskets in a certain amount of time win. Give the winners a prize that fits with the Tinkerbell party theme.

Elvis and the Golden Age of Rock and Roll Party

Elvis themed paper party goods can be popular retro-themes for many occasions honoring people aged eight to eighty. What’s really fun is to combine the rock and roll theme with one of the settings of his comedy movies. Rock around the clock, Jail house blues or blue Hawaii themes then take the Elvis memorabilia to a new decorating plane.

Probably the best of these possible decorating themes would be an Elvis in Hawaii Luau/ beach party. This hybrid theme allows the host or hostess to draw from a lot of different sources for both paper party goods as well as games and menu ideas.

While the 50’s era diner and rock-and-roll jukebox will be the simplified party theme there are also lots of Hawaiian Luau decorating ideas. The jailhouse rock Elvis party can feature a menu of bread and water. Better make than toasted bread cubes served with spinach dip in a hollowed out round bread loaf though. It wouldn’t hurt matters if the water was one of those more expensive bottled varieties though. The color scheme for table cloths and centerpiece might be the basic black and white stripe. This might be a fun card party or other simple occasion.

By contrast the Elvis Hawaiian Luau party menu can be very elaborate and even include the whole hog roast of traditional island fare. These cooking instructions are very involved and require a lot of preparation but will create a memorable occasion. A simplified version of luau pork is probably available from a local restaurant for carry out. Order ahead and have an accurate head count so that guests will not be slighted on the main course.

Regardless of which kind of main dish — whether pork or king crab — always add tropical fruit dishes and pineapple is expected.

30th Birthday Party Games

The big “”three-zero”" is cause for fear to some who hesitate to leave youth behind so its important that the 30th Birthday Party Games send a message that even aging people can still have fun. With that in mind, plus the fact that some youngsters may be invited to the party, why not revitalize fond childhood memories by playing popular games from earlier times?

30th birthday party games like Twenty Questions and Musical Chairs top the list of nostalgic games that never loose their appeal. Put an adult tone to twenty questions by limiting the words to be guessed. For example favorite drinks, trucks, footballs teams or computer programming languages may make a more interesting version of the game. The 30th birthday game proceeds as each participant gives only the hint that his chosen word is either an animal, mineral, or abstract concept and wins if no one is able to guess after at most twenty questions about the word are asked and answered by either “”yes”" or “”no”". Then look for harder categories still like internal combustion engines as apposed to electrical inductance motors, or peregrine falcon as apposed to chicken.

Musical chairs can take on a more evolved nature when Mozart or Merle is played instead of Pop Goes the Weasel at your 30th birthday party. Add a real twist by inviting an entertainer who specializes in playing the part of a living statue and have him dress as a chair. The first to sit in the arms of a living chair will get the party off to a howling start. This type of act is especially affective at a larger gathering in which the gag isn’t immediately seen by all who attend.

The 30th birthday is an emotional midpoint in the active life of an individual and it’s best to pull out all the stops for this elaborate party.

Prepare Yourself For The Powerpuff Girls Party

It’s party time, and the best way to make things easier on yourself is to decide on a theme such as a Powerpuff Girls party. If your daughter is a fan, a Powerpuff Girls Party is sure to be a success! Here are some easy hints and tips to make your party go off without a hitch!

Since the professor created the Powerpuff girls from sugar and spice and everything nice, it would be the perfect setting to allow guests are your Powerpuff Girls Party to create their own powerpuff girls out of premade cookie dough. Each girl could be given her own bit of dough (be sure to bake some yourself梡erhaps even have them made ahead of time, just in case of a mishap such as a broken cookie) then, after the cookies are baked and cooled, each girl could choose their favorite Powerpuff girl and be given a picture to use to decorate their cookie to match! A good alternative if your girls are not old enough to decorate with that much detail, would be to have powerpuff girl cookies decorated according to character, but allow them to make one of their own and frost it in the color that coordinates with the character they like best.

Sleepover Powerpuff Girls Parties work very well as sleepovers. Just be sure to include any necessities such as sleeping bags or pillows in the invitations. You can even set up a tent in your back yard or living room to make it special. If you are planning a back yard tent slumber party, remember to have a back up plan in case of weather problems or scared campers, and consider including a flashlight with fresh batteries in loot bags for every guest. Another thing to remember with Sleepovers is to specify exact pick up and drop off times to ensure there are no mix ups later.

Planning a Party on a Closeout Price Budget

Party planning for your loved ones can often be an expensive task. While you want to celebrated and honor what that person has accomplished, albeit a birthday, promotion, anniversary or other milestone, sometimes the funds aren抰 always available to throw a party.

Closeout stores are a bright light of hope when planning a party on a budget. While closeout stores are terrific for deals, one must be flexible in their plans. Unfortunately you cannot be guaranteed as to what will be in stock so it抯 best not to go into the Closeout stores looking for a particular item.

When you go to a closeout or party supply outlet and find that luau themes are on sale and clearance at a then use those items as your theme for the party. While you may have preferred to have something a little more classic, a luau can be a fun theme for any time of year; it shouldn抰 be reserved solely for summer.

Also don抰 just look in the party section for themed ideas at a closeout or party outlet store. You may be surprised to find that hard plastic cups in the luau or other seasonal theme may be more inexpensive than disposable party cups. Serving bowls, plates and matching silverware may also be more budget friendly in the house wares section as opposed to party supplies. These can be used over and over again and will not only save money on this party but for parties in the future.

School Party Fun with Soft Pretzels

You can create a fun school party for the kids any time of the year. It’s a great break from the monotony of lessons and can add a little spontaneity to the school atmosphere for the kids.

The treats for a school party should be simple and portable. In addition there aren’t a lot of cooking facilities on campus so; you’ll probably want foods that don’t need to be heated. Kids always love sugary treats. So you can fall back on the classics like cookies, muffins and cupcakes for the school party. You can also take the time to provide something a little bit healthier like a platter of celery and peanut butter. Whole gherkin pickles can be fun for the kids to chew on at the party too. Soft pretzels with cheese dip are another yummy treat. You can warm up the cheese dip if you happen to have a microwave in the teachers lounge or cafeteria. Cheese crackers and chunks of cheese are also tasty.

Soft Pretzels

For this School party you’ll need the following items: 1 packet (2-1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast, 1 Tablespoon honey or sugar, 1-1/2 cups warm (105 to 115 degrees F.) water, 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 cups whole wheat flour, ,2 to 2-1/2 cups white bread flour (or unbleached flour), 1 egg, beaten with 1 teaspoon water and coarse salt or seeds

Turn out onto a floured board. Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes or until smooth and just slightly tacky. Add small amounts of flour as you go. Grease baking sheets. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

Make the pretzels by pinching off a piece of dough. Roll out on flat surface until it forms a rope about ?inches thick. Twist or tie the rope into a pretzel shape. Place on the greased sheet. Repeat with remaining dough.

Brush top of each pretzel with some egg glaze. Sprinkle with coarse salt or seeds. Slide into oven for 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from sheet and store in airtight container.

Columbus Day: What It’s Really About

Columbus Day is celebrated in the United States to honor Christopher Columbus’s Birthday, the explorer who landed in America in 1492.

Before, most people believed the world was flat, but Columbus believed the world was round. He believed you could sail around it safely. This was a very remarkable idea, because people of that age, thought the world was flat, and you would fall off the edge if you traveled too far.

Seeking a short cut to the West Indies, Columbus believed if he sailed 3000 miles west, he would reach Asia. He approached John II, King of Portugal requesting support for his expedition. When the King refused him, he approached King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, of Spain, for their sponsorship. They didn抰 grant his request immediately but, later gave him sponsorship for his expedition. He set sail on August 3, 1492 with three ships the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. Problems with the Nina and the Pinta caused a month-long delay in the Canary Islands. He set sail again on September 3, 1492, and thirty-three days later on October 12, 1492 discovered land.

American school children are taught that Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1942. Of course, Columbus really didn抰 “discover” North America, and the parts he explored were already inhabited, but his first voyage did prove that the earth was not only round, but it was bigger than he thought.

To mark the 400th anniversary of Columbus’ voyage, in 1892, President Benjamin Harrison made a commemorative proclamation. But it was the state of Colorado, in 1905 that became the first state to observe a Columbus Day. Since 1920 the day has been celebrated annually, and in 1937 President Franklin Roosevelt proclaimed every October 12 as Columbus Day. That’s where it remained until 1971 when Congress declared it a federal public holiday on the second Monday in October.
